Why did you change from a Spyder to a Tri Glide

I currently ride a 2013 Spyder RT Limited that is subject to a safety recall. I am currently considering a Tri Glide. I have taken one out for a demo ride and the ride and handling is on par with the Spyder but I maybe renting one in the fall to get a better feel for the bike and how comfortable of a ride it is. What I am curious about is why former Spyder owners changed to a Tri Glide.

I had an early Spyder.[08] So this might not pertain to the 13's Mine was a problem from day one, 90 percent of the problems I fixed my self, I actually became an expert working on them, The last straw was a broken main shaft and front sprocket.. Traded it in for a new Tri-Glide in 2011.. Never been happier.. ThumbUpThumbUp

I had a 2011 RT-S and hardly rode it (4300 miles) before I traded in on a 2015 Tri-Glide. Aside from it sounding like an angry sewing machine it ran pretty good. Basic maintenance /service was very expensive. Gas mileage was horrible. I was never really comfortable sitting on it. I bought it on a whim after one 15 minute test ride. 2 other co-workers had them. I felt something was missing so I bought a 2012 HD Ultra Limited 8 months after the Spyder purchase and that became my main ride. I'm not getting any younger and after a few times this past riding season of slipping on gravel and fearing I would dump the 900lb beast I thought a change was in order. I rented a new TriGlide for 3 days over Christmas visiting siblings out in Phoenix / Cave Creek and fell in love with it. By March I had traded in the Spyder and the Ultra towards the TriGlide and I couldn't be happier. The Spyder was a nice experiment(an expensive one) but I'm happy I went Tri-Glide.

I would test ride the TRIGlide more before you jump ship.

Have you test driven the New spyders yet? 14 models up?

I went from a TRIGLIDE to a Spyder and I don't see me going back anytime soon.

I had a 2010 RT, Loved it but could not go anywhere with out the fear of breaking down! Spent more time and did more mileage on a rollback than on the road! went to spyderfest a few years ago and left the POS in Springfield and road home my 2013 Triglide and to this day I never looked back! I will never own an other spyder!

Spyder

I had a 2010 CanAm Spyder RTS SE5 that was in the shop 89 days in 22 months. I decided that I did not want to waste another prime riding season sitting at home so I traded it for a new 2012 TriGlide. I do not regret that move because in the 38 months I've had the Triglide I have logged 36,000 miles with only one problem..... I got caught in a Monsoon (all day) and a few weeks later the radio began to have problems. Harley-Davidson replaced it. I've ridden in rain since with no problems. The Monsoon was of Biblical proportions.
I really liked the Spyder. I just couldn't trust it. It was in the limp home mode tooooo often.

If you like the Spyder that's great. If you need the push button tranny with no clutch also a plus. I had a 2008 SE5 and a 2014 RT S SE6 the 2014 is better than the original models. The trike just feels more like motorcycle to me. After riding my friends TriGlide I did go with a CSC GL1800 but don't see myself back on a Spyder.

This is not meant to upset anybody and it's just my "silly" opinion but back when my kids were young they played with toys called Transformers where you could change a vehicle to a human figure and probably other things. Every time I see a Spyder it reminds me of those Transformer toys like you should be able to make a couple twists and transform it to something completely different. I love the looks of the Trike.

Everyone has there own riding tastes..Yep the older Spyder did have some issues from what I hear.

But after being beat up for several years on the TRIGLIDE it was time to move on..The TRIGLIDE also had its own issues..

Anyway I look at it this way whatever you ride and enjoy it that's all that matters.

I did the Harley's for more than 20 years and my body could not take it anymore. So I had to move on.. I still own a converted Harley DFT trike..I like the independent suspension..Some don't..

Enjoy whatever you ride!! That's all that matters.. :D

It amazes me that all companies treat customers like they are stupid. Or Lemon laws should be stronger. Any vehicle that is constantly in need of repair should just be taken back by the manufacture. I've had a Harley that was the same way. The negative advertisement these vehicles cause makes people go elsewhere. I know my experience made Harley lose more than 5 sales. Yet they continue instead of taking the vehicle back and learn WHY. All manufactures do this. To me it's stupid on their part. I would be 100% loyal to a firm that listened to it's customer. As is, I'm not loyal to any. Victory or Indian will probably be my next experiment simply cause I know the others.

Made my decision

I picked up my 2015 Tri-Glide this afternoon from Greenville Harley Davidson and could not be happier. The Spyder itself was a good bike but I have lost faith with BRP and their ability to take care of problems with the bike in a timely manner. I am aware that they released the details of the fix they are going to do to address heat issues in the 2013 RT Limited and I hope that is works out for owners of the bike.

Yeah, that 13 model has done more harm than they even know. I fear that's stockholders over owners once again. I don't trust them to do the right thing either. And the right thing is to put the engine in those bikes it was designed for. Instead they'll go the cheap way and lose more customers in the long run. I was thinking about another one but I'm looking elsewhere too. They can keep them up there where it's cold so they won't notice the failure of design.

I was just reading on the recall on the 13 RT model Year..Wow there are a lot of things that need to be done..

So far I been happy with the 2014 1330 RT Lots of get up and go and no heat issues.

Have fun on the new bike..ThumbUp

Yeah, from what I understand the new engine was supposed to go into the 13 but it wasn't ready. Don't know if that's true or not but it would sure explain why there might be so many problems. What gets me is one thing changed in the 14's was reversing the fans when stopped. Why they aren't doing that baffles me because that's one thing that helps get rid of heat when stopped at a traffic light. There's just no way I'd own a 13. Even with the fixes.

I bought a 2012 Tri Glide with 9k miles last month. I considered a 2013 Spyder RT but was concerned about reliability. Another reason I chose a Tri Glide was I do my own maintenance. I’m very familiar with Harleys.

My next 3 wheels will be a spyder (I have a dealership just three miles up the road form my home)
believe me I love Honda Goldwing TRIKE (76,400 miles of wonderful "NO PROBLEM" ride'nnnn)
BUT, I don't want to go through the TRINK'n it out stage any more

My wife has a 2013 ST SE5. She loves it. I could never get used to it. I just want from a Goldwing to a 2023 Tri Glide. The Tri Glide just feels more natural to me. I never got used to the Spyder controls.

I currently have a 22 RTL with 22,000 miles and recently bought a 24 Freewheeler. They both have pros and cons. The Spyder handles much better, the wife finds it easier to ride. Lots of storage, a great stereo, The Rotex engine is great, and it is fun.. Cons to me, The computer stuff is iffy, gets really hot riding, too much protection behind the fairing. Gets around 27-30 MPG, around 150 miles, so a short travel range per tank. Horrible dealer support. Did not realize Can Am street and off road were different. Like only 2 dealers in the whole state of Utah. found out the hard way after a break down. So I have lost confidence in long distance travel. The Harley has great dealer support, I find it easier to maintain as I'm familiar with Harley's, is fun to ride, has enough storage space, last trip I got 38 MPG and a good 200 mile tank range. Power seems equal, and does not handle as well. Big complaint is engine heat. Had to instal an oil cooler and still dealing with exhaust heat. Both are comfortable to ride after seats on both and bar risers on the spyder. I wanted to sell the spyder, but the wife says no......IMG_4709.jpeg
