Dealer has 2 2012 Tri-glides 1 used 1200 mi 1 new 6 mi both compltely stock same color. 30,000 for used 32,00 for new no dealer set up or freight charge. Which would you buy? Thanks

Not to mention the warranty on the new one.

Having said that maybe I'm jumping to a conclusion. Is the warranty transferrable on newer Harleys? I just assumed it is not.

But yeah, John is right. Why was it traded at such low miles? At the very least I'd want to chat with the previous owner.

I'd sure want to know its previous history, it could have been one that came back via the lemon law.

If every thing checks out alright; ie 1 thousand mile service done$$ all new bike bugs taken care of ?, Take the one with 12 hundred miles and save 2 grand.
Quite a few people trade in new Trikes some for buyers remorse, Some miss two wheels, some can't make the payments,[lost job etc] Some just realize that 3 wheels aren't for them. And then like Sigmon once said,;

''Some times a Cigar is just a Cigar''.

What Rhino2 said..... If the dealer has checked it out and stands behind it, go for it.
Last winter I found my '09 V-rod with under 2,000 miles. Reach controls and seat had been added to modify it, but the previous owner still just didn't ride it much, so traded it in on a more traditional HD. Of course, it is very possible he/she isn't riding the new one either! If so, someone else is going to get another great deal in the future when they sell it too :D.

The trike may have been in the rental fleet...anyway there is nothing wrong with buying used.. I know someone that got theres because the lady could not afford the trike and the dealer bought out her harley finacing..Bike only have 1400 miles..

So if the deal is there go for it..The dealer should be able to tell you where they got the bike..

Lets' turn the tables a minute. Would the dealer accept your "used" bike for only 2 grand less than a new one? I think not. Used is used. I think the dealer should come down on the used one. If not, I'd keep lookin'. JMHO jimsjinx

I'm with Jim and arnie - wait a month or two for the 2013's and ask for a lesser price. It is used and a year old, but watch out, someone else might have their eyes on it. I would ask for another grand off - or - throw in an extended warranty or VIP service plan.

Personnally I don't like buying anything used. Unless you talk to the previous owner, you just don't know what you're getting.

Good luck

Good luck on those assumptions that they will come down in price when the new ones come out.. Just keep shopping around as the prices vary from dealer to dealer or even a private owner.

And we all know that the dealer jacks up the prices doesnt matter what you buy bikes cars etc..

If you decide to get from the dealer just ask them where they got it and why..A good dealer will do that for you if they want a sale..

At my dealer, another customer bought a 2012 TriGlide the same time I bought mine (last August). He immediately had a bunch of accessories added to it, including a new V&H exhaust system. It was about three weeks later when the trike showed up on the sales floor again. When I asked the salesman about it, he said the owner just couldn't get used to riding three wheels and decided to go back to two.

Being the time of year it is, I would think the used one could very well be a rental. I got my 2010 just as the 2011 models were showing up and it was in the rental fleet. I have not been sorry I went that way, especially if that dealership has a good service reputation.

Buy which ever or what ever is going to give you the least amount of Buyers REMORSE! There are two ways you can buy any product.

1. DO THE MATH. Work all the numbers... Cost of repairs, service schedule, insurance cost (new vs used) Accessories on the used bike, dealer throw in on the new bike.

2. Buy what ever floats your boat best.

Dyna Rider, Could the bike have been wrecked? If the paint is metal flake, look at it very closely as I've been told that metal flake colors are pretty hard to reproduce exactly due to the many variables in that particular painting process.

Either way, as said earlier, the 2013's are due out shortly and the riding season is coming to an end in many parts of the country, so another month may save you a great amount of money. Natchurally, start your offer low, ya never know how bad the salesman might need another sale for the month. Ya can always raise your offer. You'll usually get a price reduction by thanking the salesman for his time and start to gravitate to the door. Having an offer from a competitor never hurts either. Or tell 'em you just started shopping around and you want to talk to other dealers. Good luck.

That's what happened to me and a friend a few weeks ago. We were at a dealer and my friend asked me how I liked it and if his wife could handle a trike. I asked him if she ever rode a bike before and he said no, so I said she shouldn't have a problem. I asked him if he wanted to try mine in the parking lot(big mistake). I kept telling him not to put his feet down and he shouldn't have a problem. Well, the first thing he did was put his foot down and almost ran into the side of the dealer pick up truck. I told him to get the f$#@ off and forget about ever riding a trike. He jumped off and went into a rampage saying he'll never ride a trike and kept bashing trikes over and over. I asked him what part of "DON'T PUT YOUR FOOT DOWN" didn't he understand. He said he didn't think that would be a problem.

So I can see someone buying a trike and then returning it because they can't change their habits. A lot of riders are like that. I can go from 2 wheels to 3 and back again and not have one single problem.

DON'T LET ANYONE TEST RIDE YOUR TRIKE NO MATTER WHAT - JUST SAYING. :AGGHH:

I would wait for the 2013 Models to come out & see the prices, then I'm sure the prices will drop down on the new "12 he has in stock, then you can decide...

Last year when I bought my 2012 in Oct., the dealer had a brand new 2011 (baby blue) TG and my 2012 (gorgeus sunglow red) available. The 2011 was $2000 cheaper. It was a tough decision, but the red won me over - couldn't see myself riding a baby blue Harley. LOL

So a USED 1 year old should be a lot cheaper....especially if they can't sell it.

Or if you buy the used one, make a deal for the dealer to throw in the extended warranty plan, also if you want anything added, deal for that also. Boswells HD in Nashville has a two tone 2012 red on the floor with V&N Power Duals, unknown tuner, SE AC and stock pipes. A lot of added chrome and the owner just didn't like it at under 500 miles. Take your time, do your homework on cost and maybe look at the 13's.
