I spent many long summers and long Christmas school holidays as a kid growing up on my grandfather's small farm in Nacogdoches, Texas.

It was the time spent on the farm that my 50% half Texan gene pool adopted the 100% Texan way of life to this day.

Attached are a few humorous pictures with captions that encapsulate what it means to be Texan.

Lived in Texas for a total of 40 years and it stole my heart. Don't live there now but Texas is "home". Family still there. If you haven't lived there then you probably will never understand what real Texan is. :)

My sister lives in Big D ever since her husband got a job offer from T.I. in '69 and they love it. Except for basic training, combat training, and vacations to see sis, I've spent as much time there as I'm gonna. But I'm sure it is a fine state. Some of our best history came outta there. Long live the Alamo!

Does it count I lived in Texas for three years and my son was born there? I was in the military when we lived in Texas and we both loved it. We lived in Killeen but got away from there as much as we could to see other parts of the state. I think one of the strangest thing I can remember is watch out when it did snow around Killeen because some of the drivers around there really didn't know how to drive on snow:AGGHH::AGGHH:.

I've got uncles in FW and SA, been a spell since I've been there. Just couldn't live there, I like cold weather, and as stated above, you don't know what snow is...

My son and his family live in Conroe. Exxon transferred him out for several years and they couldn't wait to get back. My grandson was born there. I love the state. They have a great culture and pride. The people are friendly and they don't wait 28 yrs like that crazy California to enforce their death penalty. The roads are great and prices are low.

In 1978, when I first got station by the USAF here in San Angelo (Goodfellow Air Force Base), I had bounce all over the world, including two other assignments in Texas. Someone pointed out the difference between a Yankee and a Damned Yankee. Well, I fooled them. Not only did I come to visit and later decide to stay, but when I retired from the Air Force in 1991 I put down serious roots right here. Have lived in the same house every since. ThumbUp ThumbUp All total I have now live about 2/3 of my life in Texas . Maybe one day I'll be a considered a "TEXAN" :xszpv::xszpv:

The old saying I wasn't born in Texas but I got here as quick as I could, applies to me.

Talk slow

We understand two languages, English and Texan, but we only speak one.
Not too many Texans retire and move up north.
The Alamo and San Jacinto are shrines to us.
March 2 is our national holiday.

Born Bexar Co 1954, spent early childhood in Del Rio before parents moved taking me with them back to their home state of Va. I've made quite a few trips back to Texas, I love Texas, have always claimed Texas, maybe someday I'll move back if it's ever just "Wife Unit" and I.

For now, I have family here in Va., both mine and "Wife Unit"s family. Our families hail from Floyd & Franklin County, Va. .... lots of interesting back ground there! Where I live now, where I have lived since 1981 .... I am maybe 2.5 miles from Sam Houston's birthplace, I drive by it several times a day. I keep an eye on it, have taken a few meals there as picnics with my VSP buddies over the years.

Lots of historical connections between here and Texas. I was working the day they placed the pink marble monument ..... all the way from Texas. In 2005 I was visiting the memorial at San Jacinto and speaking to the lady there at the desk ..... told her that the same picture of Sam Houston was in our local Court House ..... she asked if he was as ugly in ours??? .... LOL.
