What are you wearing for glasses while riding?

Up until last year I wore contact lenses, so I always rode with a nice pair of Oakley sunglasses. Now that age is creeping in, I'm finding I need to have reading glasses for up close which is a PIA . I recently switched back to glasses with a progressive bi-focal which is working out great for inside, but clip on sunglasses are not that great. I'm thinking about biting the bullet and getting some nice prescriptions riding glasses made.

What is everyone wearing... should I go with a transitions lens that go from light to dark, or get two pair (one for sun and one for overcast/night riding)? Also, who has ordered prescription riding glasses thru one of the online companies?

I use regular eye glasses [Tri-Focal] for night riding and both of my helmets have clear faceshiels with retractable hidden tinted shields... For day time riding I have Ray-Ban heavy tinted Tri-Focal lens.. From an Optometrist, No mail order for me, I want to sit down in an office and be fitted, And ''If'' there's a problem to be able to get it fixed now... Also with my sun glasses they'll re tint them heavier if I need.. While I Wait..

I do ware contacts. Have a pair of wire frame glasses with no correction on top and my trifocals strength where bifocals would be. Clip ons work well for me so I'm good to go...:xszpv::xszpv:

I keep a pair of prescription sunglasses with me when I ride, but only use them off the trike. For riding, I wear my regular glasses (Tri-focals. As the Stones said, "What a drag it is getting old." - But I say it is better than the alternative.) and a bubble shield on my open face helmet. Acts as sunglasses from all angles, keeps wind and other undesirables off my face, and adds a bit of mystery. I usually have a smoked shield on, but I also have a mirrored one, and I carry a clear just for night use.

If you can find them (usually ebay has a ton listed), those "HD" Sunglasses they used to advertise on TV designed to go over prescription Glasses work great. Come in smoked or yellow (night/anti-glare) and can get them for around $7-$8 shipped. Used to sell them at Wally World and Walgreens so maybe still do.
Polaroid makes am very similar product that can be bought at Walgreens but usually run around $15-$20.
Used those all the time over scrip Glasses when wearing half-Helmet or 3/4 without Shield.
Of course, no need with Shield or full-face. But work fine if riding with Shield up. Guess with Shield down too if you want.

I have a pair of WileyX air rage in my prescription with safety lenses in them for when I ride without a face shield. I've had those glasses save my eyes on more than one occasion while riding. Just because you have a windshield or windshield & fairing in front of you doesn't mean you can't be hit with something. I've been hit in the face with rocks, bugs and a chunk of metal. This past summer I had a small rock strike my left lens, could have been my eye. Had I been wearing my every day glasses it would have blown the lens right out.

I ride with either my clear or heavily tinted regular glasses. Using some kind of yellow goggles over them. This way, prescription glasses stay safe and cheap goggles easy to replace when they get scratched.

I'm with M3 on this one, I wear prescription wrap-around sport sunglasses with my tri-focal prescription. The glasses block everything from getting into my eyes and are vented so they don't fog up. Check them out here http://www.libertysport.com/. For night time I just wear my regular transition glasses behind a faceshield. I tried the sunglasses that fit over your regular sunglasses for a few years, but in the end the prescription sunglasses won out.

After having cataract surgery I have found that the absolute best sunglasses for me are the Maui Jims. Much better then the Oakleys and fit under any helmet I wear for the day

In the 90's Uvex came out with a pair of dark safety glasses with wrap around lenses that are replaceable. I have been using them ever since. The lenses are replaceable and cheap and come in clear, yellow.dark and mirrored. The mirrored scratch easily. They are ansi rated and very durable. i also carry my perscription glasses with me but don't need them when riding.

I have prescription sunglasses for sunny days plus my half helmet has a drop down shield. Nights I wear my regular prescription glasses and let the clear face shield down. Rainy days I wear my regular scrips (progressive transitions) and yellow over the glass goggles. Looks strange but has saved my bacon more than once in a frog choker downpour. Wife has a high def full faceshield and she really pulls her rain suit hood tight. No rain for her.

I carry pair of clear and transgression glasses. My helmet also has a flip down tented shield.
When riding or out in the sun I use the transgression glasses. I wear the clear other times.
I have tried several of the over the glasses sun glasses and they irritate me.

I wear only a half helmet in the summer and a 3/4 with clear shield and a flip down sun shield in the cooler/cold.

I use fit-overs...dark for daylight and clear for nights. They're relatively cheap and protect prescription glasses from stones and bugs

I'm still wearin the same frames made from titaniam that I bought from the sales rep that came to the plant I worked in 3 yrs before I retired, (then retired in 2009). She said they'd last forever and they don't show any signs of wearin out. I just have new lenses put in em every couple of years. I'm not a slave to fashion, and I'll be darned if I'll pay big bucks for some frames just cuz somebody else says they're the thing to have. Sometimes I just like to take a more 'interesting' path.

I wear my normal progressive trifocal glasses with this on my shoei full coverage face shield. It changes in the blink of an eye, literally, and does away with my need for additional sunglasses or tinted face shields. Where I ride in northern Arkansas we go from bright sun to heavy shade many times during a ride. This shield can be set manually or to automatic. BTW, a dark shield for my Shoei costs half of this and I would have to pick the lesser of evils when I ride.

Have you considered staying with contacts?

I wore glasses for about 20 years, starting out with reading glasses, them progressing to progressives for reading and distance. About 18 months ago, I switched to contacts for the first time in my life. The right eye has one for reading, the left for distance. They work perfectly for me. Although it took a month or so for my brain to fully adapt.

With these, I can wear any sunglass I want. I use some really cheap ones from Harbor Freight that were recommended on Goldwing Facts Forum.

The disposable soft contacts available these days are great. Thin, comfortable, barely there, work great, and cheap. I have been wearing contacts for 45 years. I leave them in 24 hours a day and throw 'em away and put in a new set every 30 days. I also have a similar prescription.. Right for distance, left for close. In low light conditions I need reading glasses, but they are 20.00 at Walgreens. Very seldom do I need to use them. Of course, everyone's eyes are different. On the road, I wear Jake polarized shades made for motorcycle riding . HD dealer here sells these, 150.00, and they are great. I keep a pair of yellow lens el cheapo shades to wear at night if needed, in the tourpac.
