Well, I'll be dipped

Was out for a ride the other day and pulled into a weigh station, and holey smokes, my rig, loaded up, weighs 1650 pounds!

When I realized how heavy the trike was, stuff started to slowly whir in my old brain. I said to myself 'self - this thing is heavy!'

I've kinda been running the shocks at 36 and tires at 26. Tires seemed to be really good, but every time I went over railroad tracks or a pothole, it felt like a box of rocks trying to ride it.

So, I figured I'd try some more air back there. Went up to 42 pounds, holey smoke - a whole different ride!

I can actually step on the bumper and make the back end go boing boing.

I could probably take it up to 48 or 50 without any problem.

I guess it took seeing how heavy the trike was to see what the problem was. Duh!

Thanks for listening, hope this helps somebody.

Yeah, yeah. Its the trike that's the weight. I think I'll try that one also and see what the wife says. As far as air, she's never said I was low in that.:qpnmt:

That weight is an eye-opener! I would never have guessed the trike would weigh that much!

The trike back half adds close to 400 lbs to the weight of a Ultra Classic bike, HD says the trike ready to roll weighs 1,191 lbs. Add luggage and riders and its easy to add a bunch of weight.

When we are fully loaded for a long trip, mine prob weighs more than 1650 lbs. I know how much I weigh,..A big hunk of hot buttered love!!... and I fer sure am not going to ask my Sweet Passenger what She weighs,,,although it is way way less than me...we are prob pushin' 1700...That's a good argument for engine mods to get the HP up there!!

How many pounds of air are you putting in the tires?
If your putting in too many pounds that could account for the extra weight........:D:D:xszpv:

My brother-in-law puts 70 psi on his 1500 rear shocks and his wire says it is the best ride ever. Before they could feel every pot hole on the road because the trike was "bottoming out".
Go with what your installer says for psi. Ask what they think and at times they will tell you a range for you to pick your best ride for not all trikes are the same, close but never the same.
