Betty and I were finishing up a great ride yesterday when I felt a terrible burning sensation just below my left eyebrow. Finally found a safe place to pull over and got my glasses off. A wasp somehow got under my glasses and was still stingin' when I pulled him off my eye!! My eye was swelled shut within five minutes!! Woke up this morning and all is normal....not even sore!!

Best Wishes! I have to carry an epi pen in case I get stung. My husband has had that happen a number of times, but I have been lucky. I wear a jacket as long as I can and a full coverage helmet. Stings are no fun!!!

Glad you are OK a lot of people cannot take stings to the face. Always keep benadril handy in your first aid kit, liquid, we had one of our surveyors get a single sting beside his nose, 5 minutes later he is on the ground and not getting any air in. He owes his life to his instrument man who ran to the truck got bendril and called 911. Without out it he would have been blue by the time EMS got to him, plus they were several 100 yards in the woods.

That Surveyor had never had a reaction before or since, but now he can produce a bendril bottle and epi pin from his pocket no matter where he is.

I got knocked off a ladder when I removed a shutter by a white tail Hornet. stug me right in the belly The RX up the street told my wife to slap on a towel soaked in house hold ammonia. I got no reaction from the sting , no swelling no pain . I keep it handy now .

Yep, Wasp and Bee stings can be really serious....a real hazard for Trike Riders. Jackets, Gloves, Full or 3/4 Helmets help immensely.....ThumbUp

They are even nastier when they fly under your full or 3/4 helmet. They are stuck there and you can't get your helmet off. They seem to think they can sting their way out. Ask me how I know....

Glad you're OK. Could have been worse. You could have been singing out loud and had him fly in (I hate when that happens). I have also been hit by a bat (non-vampire variety, I think). He (or she, I didn't look) died on impact.

I've heard of epi-pens, but where would you buy one? I thought they were prescription meds, I guess.

EpiPens definitely do require a prescription! However, if you are very allergic to stings, your doctor would certainly order you one --- that is a matter of life and death!

Been lucky enough to only once be stung by a hornet, and never by a bee.....and hoping to keep it that way!! ;) But I'm thinking now that it might be a good idea to carry something with me on the trike "just in case"....
Benadryl it is, I guess! :)

That's a story I know, too. I had a bee fly into my 3/4 helmet once when I was still riding on two wheels. It stung me, but fortunately, it only grabbed onto my ear lobe. It sure did hurt, but could've been worse.

The Chief caught on there was something wrong and pulled over pretty quickly. When I asked him what got his attention, he said, "You didn't look like you were having fun anymore." Understatement of the year!

Glad to hear your eye is better already, Greydog!
