My Trike dealer said it was the FIRST one he had ever seen where someone "CAUGHT" it before it let loose :D
When using engine breaking it made the most hideous chirping sound

Here is a picture of where the yokes were hitting see the wear marksDSC00147.jpg

Exactly one of the reasons I picked a conversion that has the diff. in line w/the Wing's shaft output!
Though there are many that will disagree, I have never felt U-joints were made for the off-set of those conversions that have a centered diff!
Just me!!!

I don't how long this was going bad but I did something the other week that I KNOW did not help it.

I accidentally down shifted into first. I clutched it quick when I realized what I did.
It may have cammed the ujoint, or perhaps it was going bad all along.

This WOULD explain when I started hearing the noise when I did.
It only clanked when I would use engine braking; Like Down shifting from 4th to 3rd.

Ya just never know.
But I am glad it went bad before our long trip this weekend!!!!!
and 2 weeks after that!!!

Dammit why don't these bikes have a shift indicator!!!!???

Mine had 62,000 when it did that. 2002 GW Motortrike Spider, had greased it less than 1000 miles before she went out. Friend had one went out and took out the shaft coming out of the motor. Lots of $$$$$ to fix that. Glad mine gave me some warning. Started making a squeaking noise while on the way to Run for the Wall. Did the ride and on the way home it started making a clanging noise so I stopped and looked at it and decided I better not ride it on home. New shaft is made a little different, supposed to be better.
