Compensators are back-ordered until June 14th! Better hope you don't need one between now and then. (I need two) :(

ON TOP OF THAT, the new* compensator requires a new rotor, and extended warranty is NOT paying for the rotor...only the compensator.

*This is a newer compensator than the "new" one from this last December.

Sounds like Harley has taken a page from CanAm's play book..... Bummer,

Time after time there are posts continually describing mechanical problems with Harleys. I've owned many and am selling my last one. Why is it that after 111 yrs Harley can't build a reliable motorcycle that owners don't have to worry after breakdowns or expensive extended warranties? I just have never understood that. I realize that other bike manufacturers have some issues also, but Harley seems to take the cake. Has anyone ever received a deceit response from Harley why that is so?

Apparently the engine for the Triglide is undersized since I read over and over how owners have had to spend 3-5 thousand on engine work just to provide sufficient power. My brother in law spent over 33 grand on a Triglide and then had to put out another 8 grand on engine work, and comfort issues. Plus, the vibration is so severe that it is damaging the paint between the kit and the fenders. Harley claims that vibration is "normal". I don't know how Harley can expect owners to deal with issues like this time after time. I suppose as long as their customers continue to purchase their bikes and put up with the issues, there isn't really isn't any incentive for Harley to be concerned. I've never been aware of so many issues with these bikes until I started reading Triketalk.

They make many diff. brands you know, Have you thought about one of the Japanese bikes ? they never have any problems, esp. vibration, or a loud muffler's, etc. and their dealers will fix anything you ask, you wont have to worry about any thing :clapping::clapping:.

Me,.... I'm sticking with a Harley, never had any of the problems you mention.

Just curious, How many Harleys have you owned over the years ?

What year and model is your trike?? If you have a TriGLide now you will not need a rotor..

2011 Tri-Glide with close to 50K on it. Was told that this new (since December 2013) compensator requires a rotor made especially for it.

I just put one on my 2010 and the rotor on the bike has the same part number as in the instructions. The rotor is needed for the other bikes listed in the instructions.. Did your dealer tell you needed one??

You will need the adhesive kit which the dealer may have already to install the plastic oil diverters to the compensator that mounts to the outer cover...

+1 Same here.

+1 Same for me

Loved the japaneese joke. :D

I haven't seen many 10+ year old jap bikes out running around on the streets and definatly no 20+ year old ones.

I DON’T want to insult your experience Kevin ~ you've got years and years in this industry.

BUT in two cases I discovered that the Motor Company back-order date MAY have coincided with boatload of parts at Los Angeles and Long Beach harbors. In my two cases, I resisted the siren song "special-order" back-ordered items (BEFORE the dealer wouldn't refund my $$) and found them in-stock in the center of Pennsylvania, away from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

Maybe you're dealer parts man could ask for a wide-area search for the part off-the-shelf.

Just my 2¢

I've owned 7 Ultras just in the past 20 yrs. I have been luckier than most. But from what I read in these posts others aren't so lucky. If my memory serves me correctly, all but 3 of my Ultras had some kind of issues, whether it was radio, neutral light, tranny or gaskets. When it came time to trike my bike, I triked my Wing. Bigger engine and much less problems.

Been married to the same great lady (Saint Marilyn) for over 40 years. We agree on two things. It has been both a love and hate relationship and it has been worth it.
I have never had a relationship with any person or thing that was perfect. If it had been, probably not an honest one.
I would never expect anything designed and made by a human to be perfect either. So it has been with the Harleys I have owned and will continue to own. Guess a love hate relationship works for me and after all it is mine to love and hate. I do not expect all to like Harley, I do expect Harley will be around for me to enjoy for many more years.(another 111 years would be nice)

One of my buddy's told me that if we were to take off on a cross country trip, his Harley Triglide ( meaning A Harley) would probably give us the most grief on the road. He is a previous 1300 VYX owner.

Yes, that is a great idea. We've already done that within two dealer networks...gonna expand it. May end up getting one of the BDL's.

Ya, these darn Harleys are on the side of the road broke down everywhere you look. Mile after mile nothing but broken Harleys on the side of the road. But, I keep riding mine (thirty years and not a breakdown, by the way) cause I guess I just like living on the edge!! :kpzxvq:

I really think most of these whiners :qpnmt: are just unhappy because they didn't buy a Harley, and they want one so bad :(, so they come here hoping to get attention to them self's:wave4:.and some ones shoulder to cry on while bad mouthing Harleys :kpzxvq:.
lets not be rude to them, lets just give them two seconds of silence, that's enough :D:clapping:.

OK, but two seconds is all they get!!! :AGGHH:

Maybe you should let him read Kevin's thread of his trip to Alaska and back from Mississippi and the few problems he had on that 10000+miles trip on his tri-glide.

Same issues any Yamasuki might have on the same trip.

If their parts availability bothers you so much that you title the thread "Unbelievable" then say "again" it sounds like you are fed up, so get yourself a for sale sign, put it on your trike, sell it and buy something that you think will have all parts when you need them and make you happy. Why torture yourself? If you don't have a Harley, why complain about something you don't have? There is absolutely no law that says you HAVE to have a Harley. I've owned Harleys for about 45 years and truthfully, I only had 1 that ever was in for a breakdown of any kind. I've never had a problem getting any part I needed, when I needed it, so this whole "Does it Again" stuff is totally foreign to me, but apparently, it must happen to you frequently. My advise is to sell and save yourself some grief.

I knew that post would get a rise here. I dont fault anyone for having an opinion, and the poster was quoting the TriGlide's owner, but this is off topic and not an appropriate post in this thread..Lets get back on topic guys...ThumbUp

Come on Bazooka, after pushing our Harleys around while going to get a cheap bottle of wine, we need to "vent" a little.
Dennis :Joker3:
(now where is that cork screw, OH, it twists off)

A recent report states that 98% of All Harley's built in the last 20 years are still on the road today.....
The other 2% made it home......:Joker3:

[was I just thinking this, or did I just type it??] :xszpv:

That's true...pushing a $40K trike would piss me off too. :p

25 YRS. FROM BIKE TO TRIKE AND STILL COUNTINGThumbUp

NUFF SAID
i like that Pcombe,

Me, 62yrs from tricycle to bike to trike !

I've owned numerous (20-30) Harley's over my many, MANY years of riding. Owned 'em back in the early days. Owner 'em in the AMF days when they fell apart on the home right after buying it. Had to carry enough tools to totally rebuild it on the road. Also had to carry enough oil to restock the Exxon Valdez.

Today they are a dream compared. I've owned 3 Ultras since 2000 (my first EVER windshield) and granted, have had a few problems, stators and such, but nothing major. And I ride the crap out of 'em. Have ridden all 48, four corners and the top and bottom. Have done maybe 4-5 Iron Butts just never got 'em certified cause I didn't start out intending to ride without stopping. Just got in the grove !!!!

Different dealerships handle things/customers differently. Some throw you a fast curve, some a slow strike right down the middle. I'd like for a service writer or service manager tell me I need a new compensator under warranty. And that it takes a different rotor but the rotor isn't covered. I'd start with the dealership manager, then the Owner, then the Regional Rep. They do not like problems getting to Milwaukee. If no good answer, every phone on every desk in Milwaukee would be ringing.

"I bought a Harley yesterday, I'll buy a Harley tomorrow."
