Trip-Meters on 2014 malfunction

Has anybody ever had their trip-meters malfunction? If so, what is the fix?

I generally use trip-meter A for miles since the last fill-up and trip-meter B for miles since last oil change, or if on a trip, miles since the beginning of the trip.

Yesterday morning I started up and both A & B were showing the same miles as the odometer!

I had that happen once while on a trip. I use my trip meters the same way.
I just left it until the next fill and it reset itself to the correct numbers.

Hope your fix is as easy.

It seems to have been that easy to get it working correctly again. Dunno if it was a software glitch or what.

Sorta unhappy that I lost my trip counter, I hadn't looked at it in awhile...so now I'm guesstimating (within a few hundred miles) that we did around 4800 miles on our Fall Colors trip.

I use mine in the same way and a couple weeks ago it did the same thing. Both tip mileages re set while I was riding. Reset A after fill up never touched B it just has been counting up since the reset. Had it in for clutch master cylinder recall they said they would check it. Have no idea what they did but of course they found nothing.

The next day after the mileage reset, started it and before got in 2nd gear the No Fob message came on. Dealer checked while doing the recall said nothing was wrong. Stopped for gas on the way home from the dealer, left gas station and yes the No Fob message came on again. Have no idea if the mileage reset and the No Fob message are related?

One of my key fob's stopped working a couple months ago and this is how it started. Couple No Fob messages and then had to enter pin to start it. My wives fob worked for the rest of the trip and they reset it when we got home.
 
Moe, Yours sounds like bad batteries. I don't trust them & carry extras in the tour pac. I have had them go bad in just a month or so.:Trike1:

I thought that the first time it happened and changed the battery but it made no difference. Have a spare battery in the tour pack just in case. Because it failed once already was not the battery and it is intermittent going to let it fail then change the battery and go from there. Battery in the fob is only 2 months old, wives is over a year and it works fine, but don't keep hers in the tour pack all the time.
 
Great idea to carry an extra battery, is the battery something that can be purchased anywhere? Or is it a Harley part? What is the part number?
 
Sorry the thread seems to have gotten side tracked with Key Fob info.

Back to OP question Mileage reset for no reason. After a day of riding went to check mileage for the day and it read .02 on both trip A & B. That is the road we live on so it reset driving down the road by itself.
 
No issues with my 2014. Both meters function well and independent of each other. I reset trip A each fill-up. Owned for 19 weeks and 5800 miles. :pepper:

Yeah, my batteries are good...also keep a spare in the TP.

Have not been into the dealer yet for clutch recall, will mention it then, but there are no error codes, so I doubt they'll have any useful input...unless they've seen it happen before.

No big deal...just reminded me of the MS BSOD. :laugh:
