Trike Value

What is a reasonable value for an 03 gl1800 with a Champion solid axle trike kit? It is yellow in color with pin stripes, never wrecked, Ultimate seats w/backrest, floorboards with heel/toe shifter, new tires front and rear with about 35K miles on trike. It has all the standard Honda hardware. Nothing wrong with bike and runs excellent. I am going back to a 2 wheeler.
Any and all advice/opinions appreciated.

If you could get it for 13-15 K....it would be a good deal! People tend to want a bunch of money for those older wing conversions. When I look at the value of a used trike, it always comes down to the resale value of the bike, plus a depreciated value of the kit.
This sounds like a pretty nice trike, but I would not pay more than 15K. I am sure there will be those that disagree, but realistic value should be applied.

Plug this into your browser (Lehman is the closest brand to Champion I could find) and improvise a little -

2003 Lehman Trikes Prices, 2003 Lehman Trikes Values, Specs & Pictures | NADAguides | 2003 Lehman Trikes Book Value

Understand that NADA is an approximate wholesale price ~ a price a dealer might give you in trade. If it's a trike that special to you in some way (special paint, lighting, "mint condition") then it might be worth more.

NADA is a baseline. Ask your insurance man what you'll get if the trike is wrecked on the way home from buying it . . . . you dismount and go into a McDonalds for lunch . . . . someone plows into it in the parking lot and totals it = that's your NADA value.

You have to decide whether this particular trike is worth it or not. Good luck.

What little research I did before buying my bike and believe me it was little.
It seemed to me that with most adds.
The asking price was more or less based on the upper KBB value for the bike.
Plus the full cost of the conversion regardless of the bikes year.

Of course dealers being the highest of all.
That said I did buy my bike used from a dealer..................duh:gah:

What Ive since learned.
A bike is worth what some one else is willing to pay for it.
Took me 3 months to sell my 99 Valk at a 2K loss to me.
I don't have to say it in this economy, its a buyers market.

I paid $20k for my "03 with a Motor Trike kit, it only had 10,800 miles on it and I bought it this year.

I bought my trike about 3 months ago. It is a 2005 GW with a Champion solid axle conversion. It had 11,000 miles and is in great shape. It had no aqua boards ( a plus for me ). No heated seats, grips or NAV. It did have a heel/toe shifter and floorboards. Next to no chrome (another plus for me). I paid $20,000, but would have gotten it for $19,000 had the owner been able to swing a parallel deal for a Miata he wanted at the price he wanted. Original asking price was $25,000. In the area of the country where I live (East Tennessee), people are/were asking crazy prices for really old machines. Had I not bought this one, I still would be trikeless due to prices, age, mega-miles and lack of choices.

I bought a 02 gl 1800, bike itself came off showroom floor in 04 (new). Lehman Monarch II kit put on in 05, Just bought it couple months ago, 15k miles, with cyclemate trailer, trike cover, 2 helmets with intercom, added chrome to all..Got it fore 21k.

I think Scribe5 mentioned it in the last two sentences ~ location matters. You'll draw from the local buyers in Fort Worth / Dallas area.

When I've sold cars on eBay and Craigslist.org, they've eventually been sold on Craigslist by local sellers. EBay has a local free listing, but it's time-limited (at least, the last time I looked at it) and buyers don't really want to pay high delivery fees.

When I bought my '09 XL1200 Lehman Raider with 3,200 miles on it, the local prices around Southeastern PA (Philadelphia) were in the $17K ~ $20K range. I bought my trike at a farm, out in the middle of Pennsylvania, miles away from any town or city. I paid $14K And yes, I bought it on Craigslist, and picked it up myself.

Just my two cents. Again, good luck.

I bought my trike on Craigslist as well as my VTX 1800 and both were local to me. And will buy and sell there again after having good experiences. Since I know a little about motorcycles in general, I think I can spot obvious problems either with the machine, or the owner. If the exterior of the trike looks dirty, ill-kept or abused, (maybe the owner as well) you can be sure the insides may have problems. A couple of the trikes I looked at before buying mine were rather sorry looking. On both, the owners didn't even bother to wash and wax....and they wanted me to part with $25 grand for dust buckets :qpnmt: One owner had a 1995 GW with a Hannigan conversion and 45,000 miles. He obviously loved his machine and there was not a flaw in the body. I decided not to buy since he wanted $17,000 and I wanted a larger engine and had a hard time justifying paying that much for an 18-year-old motorcycle. Had I not found a machine I liked and had confidence in, I might have gone to a dealer...there are some good ones fairly nearby to me in Georgia and Alabama and you can pretty much get what you want. But I hate paying for someone's overhead if I can avoid. If you do go Craigslist, you might want to take someone who knows trikes/motorcycles along. Good luck.
