Beware of your reverse drive starter on these bikes for these years. They will go out and it will cost a lot (1400 ) unless you know of a place that rebuilds them as I have found out. Traced my problem all the way back to my starter when I took it apart ( nothing to lose ) as soon as I opened it up where the brushes are it was rusted badly the brushes were rusted to the housing and one of the brushes was gone. There is a problem with these starters and they hope you make it through the warranty. The new ones (2014 and newer) are a different housing that is more water resistant and they have more output as well. Don't get me wrong I love my trike just think its a same you pay all this money and have to pay 1400.00 for any kind of replacement part. There is a place in NJ that will rebuild them for 350 and I and in the process of finding a place here at home and will follow up when I find one hopefully cheaper.

THANKS BO:Santa:

This was addressed with the 2013 MY introduction.

So it is no longer an issue? I haven't used my reverse yet because I wanted to avoid this problem of replacement. Replacing my boots is much cheaper and the trike rolls back pretty easily.

I found the brush plate fully assembled on eBay for 70 bucks and the rest of the starter all checked out to be good so waiting for the plate to get here reassemble and test out. You really should use the reverse once in a while as I do I don't use it every time but I did us it from tie to time. The problem is the water getting in it and not drying out.I will let you know by the weekend if it all worked out.

THANKS BO

These are the guys from NJ that I mentioned that want 350 to do the whole starter which isn't bad I guess but they found out how much they cost new.

THANKS BO

I was the first one they did, I brought it to their shop my self. [a year ago?] guess the price went up??
My take on them was they are old school and won't raise their prices except to add shipping costs , When I asked if I could recommend them to others..... With me there wasn't any shipping cost, And I paid cash...

They addressed the water issues, IMO I still wouldn't use it any more than I needed to. Its a high torque car starter, they're only going to take so much beating before they fail.

Well all I finally got the starter fix with the brush kit from eBay with the help of another trike rider. The one thing we learned is that you have to make sure you mark all the housing pieces when you take it apart because it does make a difference when you reassemble it.so when you take off your bike mark it all yourself or it will end up like mine and take a week to figure it out and a lot of phone calls to different people. In short you can fix the brushes and brush plate for 70.00 and some labor make sure you silicone the wire from your solenoid to your starter up good or you will have the same problem. Harley should have recalled these bikes and fixed this.

THANKS BO
