Trike rear fender protection: typical price for PPF installation

I just got a new Freewheeler. Looks like I need to protect the fronts of the rear fenders from stone impact. Of the available options, I’ve learned that:

Leather/vinyl can trap abrasive stuff underneath, can loosen and flap around, can get ratty-looking after a couple of years, and some types require drilling for snap fasteners.

Protective films can only be applied to the flatter middle part of fenders, older versions can ‘yellow’, may need to be stripped and replaced after 5 years, and expert installation is critical to getting decent results.

Since it seems to be the most ‘reversible’ option (less damage to the bike if I decide to get rid of it), I decided to go with a film that’s installed professionally. I reached out to an installer in north central New York state, and got an estimate of $1,200 to coat the lower third of two rear fenders with xpel protective film. That price seems a tad high to me. Does anybody have recent experience with having PPF professionally installed anywhere near north central New York state?

Thats way high to me. I just got a quote for XPEL in Knoxville, TN for @ $500 got forks, fenders rear and front, side panels etc.

Have a 2020 Ultra with a Roadsmith conversion.

Earlier this year had Ceramic Pro PPF with 7 year warranty professionally installed by “It’s A Wrap Automotive” in Champaign IL.

They covered the entire front half of both rear fenders (the upper tape line in the pic), the front half of the front fender, and the entire front fairing for $900.

Yup... my guy probably has more business than he can handle right now, and has offered a ridiculously high price, figuring I'll go for it if I'm desperate enough. Thanks to both of you for your information! Not sure what I'll do next, but I might have to look beyond this immediate area to find a better price... or I might even... try to do the installation... myself!

I’ve put it on a few cars in the past and thought putting it on my bike would be a snap. I bought some Xpel film, cut the first fender piece, got out the slip solution, scratched my head trying to figure out how to start, then said nah…this ain’t happening.

Took it to the shop and they said with the compound curves, they have to steam and stretch it to fit. The fairing was actually 3 pieces. I watched them for a few minutes on another bike and said call me when you are done.

Just a tip looking for a shop. Try calling some automotive vinyl wrap places to see if they do PPF. Vinyl wrap and PPF would seem about the same to install, but they are not. They use a steamer for PPF and a torch for vinyl. Ask if they have a steamer and if they do, they probably are trained and are good at installing PPF.

My only regret? Should have had them do the entire bike.
