Trike Cover In The Wind

I have just purchased and installed a new Nelson-Rigg cover on my Gl-1800 Hannigan with whale tail. Seems to be a great fit. Down here in south Texas the wind blows a lot and it gets under the cover and makes it flap around even though I have tied the bottom grommets together. It makes me nervous because of potential paint damage. Have any of you had damage from a Nelson-Rigg cover??

Doesn't matter what the material is, a constant beating of anything against the paint will damage it over time. If you can tie the cover sufficiently tight to stop the flapping I would look into a shed type cover and remove the "on the bike" cover. I've seen ads for a tent type bike cover that might serve you better if you have a constant wind to deal with.

See post "putting up my garage" for one idea.

Here's a link to one type of storage that might help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5KJ3R364CM

If it rubs enough it will damage the paint almost certain. I have experienced that wind and it is bad. GOOD LUCK! RIDE SAFE

I use a Nelson-Rigg UV2000 half cover on my HD when traveling. I clean then cover the windshield with a old sweatshit cut down to fit then put the cover on and add additional bungee cords across the middle to reduce the flapping. I buy a new cover every year because they go get dirty on the inside. Now after all that, no I do not have any paint damage from using it.

Why not buy some more bungee cord line, add your own hooks, and add your custom cords wherever you see the cover flapping in the wind, or just place them according to your best guess? It may not look cool tied up like Gulliver, but you are only using the cover when you are not riding it.

I ve got an ultraguard cover should imagine its similar to yours.
I ve put extra eyelet in centre of cover under trike 3 bungees under neath tighten cover.Light duty ratchet strap over cover in middle keeps cover tight with no movement, not had any chaffing damage.
As long has you;ve removed all slack shouldnt have a problem.

several years ago I purchased a "bike garage" which was a plasic base which you drove up on and then pulled the cover over the top of the bike and secured. With the day/night temps here in the northeast, condensation would build up and the bike would be covered with moisture. Just not enough cirrculation.

I have used the bikebarn for over 8 years and never had that problem their material is not plastic and don't sweat. it holds up very well and has a limited life time warrantee. It works very well and can be anchored to the concrete or ground. they are a little expensive but if you have a $30,000.00 trike I would want it protected better then just a through over cover. check them out.
