Trike Accidents

We hear about motorcycle accidents, but I wonder about trike accidents. Has anyone read or heard about any data on trike accidents?

I was thinking about this and the type of clothing I should purchase. I like the FirstGear Rainer jacket, but I wonder if it is overkill on a trike. I will wear a helmet at all times. I can see myself being immediately ejected out of the trike if someone hit me.

Say, I am going to get a t-shirt made that says, "I rode the RAT and attended the ROT." When I ride in the 3,100 mile RIde Around Texas - Insanity and attend the Rally of Texas event in Austin, I will be very cool.:cool:

We'll look for you in Austin next June!!!

There have been 2 Stallion accidents posted here on trike talk. One was the very first blue one, I cannot rememebr the posters name, but they are still riding a blue one. The other the owner was killed his son was kind enough to post the damage pictures, so that we could maybe understand how a stallion reacts when it rolls. Search around you shoud find them.

I have never seem any trike specific data, my guess is too few to follow, they either put a tike in with Motorcycle, or other.

Yes, I think you are right. But as more trikes come on the streets, I bet there will be trike accident stats someday.

I see a lot improvements coming in the future for the Stallion. I image what the Stallion will look like and inside the cockpit and out 5 years from now. I see many improvements. Especially the electronic suite. I wish they would have the Goldwing setup. Wow, what a great set up for the rider. The Stallion looks primitive in comparsion. :(

There was a picture floating around the forums about a trike accident on the Dragons Tail that happened a couple years ago. I believe both folks on board were killed. That is the only one I have heard about. I am sure there have been more.

Regarding protective clothing; I ride both my trike and bike and would not consider wearing less protective gear on the trike than on the bike. You are just as exposed to injury in an accident on either of them. I have been riding for nearly 60 years and have only been down once (no injuries) and was riding with my son when he went down and slid across 5 lanes of concrete and bounced over a concrete median with no injuries. Helmets, boots, gloves, and leathers saved us both from injury, although my son's helmet and leathers took a beating. Wear the best protective gear you can get.

Yes, there have been wrecks involving trikes. There will be more as the number of trikes increase.
Don't care to read about them:(
Rather read good things on these sights.

The Dragons Tail accident involved a husband/wife team that clipped or was clipped by, a Pick-up truck towing a Boat...Trike flipped, they landed under the Boat as it dislodged from the trailer. I try to wear at least a Leather Jacket, Jeans, Gloves and Helmet. I was hit a year ago this past June and spent the better part of the last year recovering from 3 surgeries and still only have about 60% use of my right arm and I was hit by another Bike...I can't imagine how I would've faired had it been a car or PU Truck! Dress for the Ride and Ride Safe!!!

Excellent advice. I am going to change my plans for clothing.

By the way, since no one will probably read this, I am going to let you in on a cool site for an outstaning air wing for the Stallion. You will be the only one besides me to know this secret information. Remeber, do not tell the others in the Stallion tribe about this.

Go to to www.saegn.com and take a look at their holders, mirrors and windshield airwing. Outstanding stuff. I am going to put it on my future Stallion be super cool at rallys, etc.
 :D

Yes, I screwed up.

It is SAENG/TA, Sport Touring Accessories -

Sorry about that.
:D

I like their windshield wing and the rear view mirror. Their Cockpit-Mount/Single-Flex looks very interesting too.

Switchback: Surely you jest! everyone with a stallion follows the messages on trike talk to find the latest and greatest things (do dads) for their stallion. Charlie D.

While this is old news, I feel it should be out to the group. When I was in Southern Illinois visiting, a triker was on his way home on IH57 after having a triple tree installed on his trike. It was a low priced tree that an installer recommended. On the Interstate, the tree broke, sending our triker across the median, missing an eighteen wheeler by inches, into the ditch and hitting a tree. His arm was boken and the trike was beat up. He saved money on the tree however....duh.
