TriGlide Chrome wheels...

Got the new 2013 catalog from my dealer. They have mirror chrome wheels availble for the Tglide now..$550 each for the rear,,,$500 for the front. Identical to the originals...just chromed...Hmmmmm...are you thinking what I am thinking...might do it. Will see.

Cheaper using a exchange chromer ..You can get all three for around 700 bucks.
most give a warranty against defects. Or have yours chromed

Yep, did the exchange with Willy Shiny. Not only are they easy to clean, the price was fair also. Also bought the chrome spacers for the front wheel. They are very cool.ThumbUp

Chrome pros or willey shiney will exchange or chrome yours..
check ebay they are usaually on there too..

I would really love to have chromed wheels. I am a bit paranoid about having my stock wheels chromed because a while back after doing a lot of research, I came upon the website of an old plater. He said he was a plater for over 50 years and he would never have OE aluminum wheels chrome plated. Something about aluminum not being the best metal to plate. He said if you are looking to having yours plated ask for a year warranty. He said most platers will not give a warranty longer then a couple months. If you can find one that warrenties his for a year or more get it in writing and make sure he'll be around that long.

I question all that because bike mfg's chrome there wheels all the time and I don't hear of many problems from those. But this guy sure seamed believable.

Price wise chroming is a good deal, but if I buy the Harley wheels, I'll have an extra set of wheels I can switch to for winter riding and not worry about them getting all gunked up. More expensive though.

If I have mine plated, I won't be able to ride for weeks.

If I exchange, I don't know what shape the wheels I get back will be under the plating.

Has anyone had long term experience with OE aluminum wheels being chromed? Any issues? Warrenty??

This is the biggest decission I have for the trike and don't really know which way to go. Hope we get a lot of input on this subject.

If I remember when I got mine they give your 2 years warranty..Easy to clean versus them stock wheels thats for sure..

I had my wheels chromed in California back in the fall of 2009. I havent had any problems with them at all. The place is Chrome Plating Services | Motorcycle Chrome Plating | Automotive Chrome Plating | Classic Components the price was resonable compared to HD's price. From the web site they want 750 for the set of three.

Most of these platers won't take damaged wheels but I am like you I would want MY wheels back. As far as chrome plating aluminum I've never heard that this was a bad idea. Every wheel on the market that is chrome is done over aluminum I think the important thing is to find a reputable plater that does it right with no short cuts.

Willy shiney did mine and I also got the mini moon hubcaps and spacers for front wheel $800. Pay up front he ships you the chrome wheels and you ship yours back. Down time a couple hours.

Just saw the new catalog and to tell you the truth, I like the chrome/black Agitator wheels a lot better, but they are a lot more expensive also.

If I do anything, I'll do the $700 deal - IF I do anything at all.

More then likely I'll just put the money away for an unwanted retirement in a few months.

Spiners are not my bag baby!..:AGGHH: Why not just have the rims painted or powder coated..
There are lots of other options out there other than chrome.....

Getting the bug again. My TG's wheels got spots in the aluminum from riding over the winter. I used H-D aluminum wheel protectant = POS - didn't do any good. Anyway I checked out a few platers including Willey Shiny. Big disapointment - none will warrantee against winter riding/salt. Bummer.
Does anyone know a plater that will warrantee againt salt? How are H-D wheels plated - they must be warranteed against salt - aren't they???
One plater said billet aluminum wheels are the hardest to plate and won't give any kind of warrenty against peeling or flaking.
Maybe powder coating is the answer, but I sure do like chrome.

I bought mine from Bikes 2 NV cost more but you can purchase lifetime warrenty with them if you want. Check out their web site. I also did the spinner Hub caps. Billbigdog was the first to do it he has pics on the forum.

This may be a bit off the wall,:Trike1: up here in the frozen North Chrysler had issues with Chrome plated Aluminum wheels. My PT Cruiser had this issue.
When they salt the roads in winter...it actually gets trapped in between the plating and aluminum & "eats" the plating and causes air leaks in the rims around the rim bead.
Of course we don't ride bikes here in winter. But, those of you who live on the left side of the U.S.A. may deal with salt air from the oceans. Would that have any effect on the type of plating that is mentioned here?:Shrug:

Ditto with TWO PT cruisers w/ custom paint jobs. With BOTH we got the factory wheels replaced under warranty. Chrome peeling and alum. rotting where disimilar metal plug in the center. The problem is that they simply spray chrome over bare aluminum without doing the other precesses/coatings so it will stick. Many custom parts are done similarly. Good chrome wheels won't peel. Not sure about HD's or who actually makes/chromes them.
I just spent a couple hours cleaning my wheels on my new-to-me trike yesterday. I used two types of cleaner and the Wenol (?) drill mounted cone shaped buffers. When done I washed good and put on a liberal coat of good 'ol Johnson paste wax. ( Which BTW is the best thing to get rid of small scratches showing on paint)

Sprinkman, just talked with Al at Bikes2NV. Very impressed, but prices are almost double the normal prices. He does give a 5 year warranty though or if you want - a lifetime warranty - but not against salt or brake dust. That's the most important thing for me since I ride in the winter.
For $200/wheel he will color the chrome - I've always loved gold colored wheels on a candy apple red bike. Don't want to get carried away now and run up the national debt just for a few more years of riding pleasure.

Where did you get the spinner hub caps?

Gary I made them I used Harley hub caps and bought spinners off of e-bay and used a Willie G skull dust cove medallion in the center. Also if you do this buy some of that liquid rubber coating you can buy for dipping tool handles in and dip the prongs a couple times so they will not come off. This was Bill1BigDog idea he has pics. look up his posts. Also thinking about buying baby moons from willy shiny and putting spinners on those.

Gary I seen the colored wheels when I took mine down they are just as nice as the chrome really look good I am just a sucker. Also they are great people to work with.

I was thinking on riding down there and have Al do the whole switch-a-roo. He said it would take 2 hours.
Now I just have to justify spending twice as much money ($1300 just for the wheels) and still not get any warranty against salt. Big decision.
Then I have to figure on when I want to ride down - probably in the spring if I have the money saved by then.

Now that fall/winter is starting to set in. I may just take off the chrome wheels and install the stock wheels for the cooler months.
It does not take long to do and gives me a chance to look at them great stock harley brakes!!

Check out Willy Shiny at www.willyshiny.com. The best deal in town for half the price of HD. And they look a lot better. Google them for reviews. You won't find anything bad....

I bought the H-D Anarchy wheels - look great. I will use the stock wheels for winter riding. I purcheased a set of 3 wheels from E-Bay that I was going to have plated. Brand spanking new. Available for a good price if someone is looking for an extra set to chrome...or do what I did - 1 summer set and 1 winter set.

I got mine from surfcitychrome on ebay. $750 shipped plus $90 to ship my core stock wheels to them. I had them over a year and love em! He may be on vacation now but keep on eye on his items. I've seen some go for less @ auction!
