Travelling with our dog

We plan to take our dog on a few trips this year. We have purchased a pet carrier that mounts securely to the Harley rack on the top of our tour pak. Question for those who travel with a pet. What do you do with the dog when you go into a restaurant for lunch? What has been your experience for hotel rooms? Any tips you can provide us?

Have you tried out your pet in the carrier yet? I would recommend a few practice runs first to see how your pet tolerates or enjoys it.

I have used it and the dog loves it. she is tethered in but can still stand up with her head in the wind which she likes. She stays head in the wind until about 50 mph. After 50 mph she tends to go inside the carrier and curl up and sleep:)

For motels that are pet friendly look at the Choice Hotel group. As far as restaurants you might have to do drive through. If you check in and the pet stays quite while you are gone the motel is a nice place to leave them while you eat. Just takes some creative thinking and being considerate.

It's a know fact that humans lose hearing permanently when exposed to periods of motorcycle wind noise. Your dog will experience the same thing. I noticed in Field and Stream a story about Mutt Muffs -- maybe that's an option. For further info., you can Google hearing loss due to wind noise on a motorcycle.

One additional thing we did was to replace the regular collar with a harness. Much more comfortable and makes me feel a lot better about him staying tethered too. The doggles look real cool too and protect the dogs eyes.

Dogs on the bike

We travel with two, they ride in a small dog create and luv it. They don't bark so the restaurant normally don't say anything. *If they do I just say they are therapy dogs! Again they don't bark and they are my PTSD dogs.
