Transmission Grinding

I have a 2019 TriGlide. When shifting, specifically downshifting, my trans grinds. Sometimes when first started, sometimes while riding for quit a while. It's usually when going down from early gears, 2nd to 3rd or 2nd to 1st. I have also heard this happen in others bikes. Is his an issue with 2019/2020's or another issue? Fluid levels are correct.

Afraid I'm chewing all the teeth off! :afraid:Anyone else had this issue?

What lube do you have in the transmission?

Harley has had a fair share of problems with leaky slave cylinders on their hydraulic clutches, Your owners manual is specific on bleeding out old fluid and replacing it every 2 years. This is critical to proper clutch function. Try a fluid flush first. Harley did NOT recall the 19 and up bikes for a problem yet. IMO they should have.

Check your tranny fluid level, some of these trannys are migrating fluid into the primary, this can cause grinding. To be sure of the transferring if your tranny is low, remove your derby cover, if fluid pours out that is where your tranny fluid has gone. Some late models left the factory ( I believe with build dates after May 2019) with the factory fix already installed. You can look @ your primary cover too see if it has been installed

Lori.....Welcome To Trike-Talk....I Have a 19....No issues but that doesn't mean you aren't having any...If its still under warranty take it back to your dealer.....

You can watch a very good video of D K Customs ( on of our many very good vendors ) doing his own install of the primary vent kit here

Jack i had a serious problem with my 17 Tri-Glide transferring oil.... And never had any problems with shifting ....And Or grinding when shifting....That said anything could be possible ? But i'm thinking something else is going on with Lori's Transmission....

Agree, we need a starting point. These constant mesh trannys have always been noisy, tho I have not seen any M8 trannys making grinding noises yet

If the slave cylinder does not have enuff lift on the pressure plate it could cause a problem like this, that is one of the things the recall bulletin lists
