Goldwing with Motor Trike conversion - does anyone know how much weight the trailer hitch will handle? Trying to think of ways to add additional storage to the trike. Tinkering with the idea of a swing away frame that mounts in the trailer hitch to which a storage box could be bolted.

I don't know what the MT hitch is rated at but I would like to advise you of the problem I had when mine was first installed. We headed out to visit my brother in Helena and before we had completed the 700 mile trip the hitch was sagging severely. Upon inspection I found that the hitch was only tack welded together and the rear weld gave way. I took it off and had someone reweld it properly. Now I believe it will handle any weight I chose to carry. Within reason of course.

Gary your stock receiver is real weak. The first time I towed my trailer the hitch sagged real bad. By the time I made it home things were scary!
I pulled the hitch and added material to the back side allowing me to secure it to the frame. I now can put my full 207 pounds on the hitch without bending it.
If you look at the Motor Trike web site you'll find the receiver redesigned so it now is anchored similar to what several of us did. It's not difficult to modify if you have the tools and welder.

Thanks for the info. I'll take a good look at how it's attached before trying to use it to mount additional storage.

I strongly recommend that you fix the hitch before you use it for any purpose. It's a serious safety issue!
