Just had new water pump, clutch slave cylinder, push rod seal clutch system flushed and bled for lots of $$$$. Had to ride trike home abt 55 miles last week. Went for short ride today and had to turn back because I heard a noise and felt like something let go and rubbing up front. Speedometer not working on the way home. Got into my carport and a 2" bolt popped out from the front somewhere. Could the speedometer cable be loose or come disconnected? Just don't know what to do anymore. I know very little abt my trike except what they tell me at shop. Starting to feel lost!:censored:
 
You broke the gear in the front axle . Remove the disk cover left side ( sitting on bike )! Right at the axle you can see we're the cable connects. There is a small screw holding it on remove screw and pull cable out. Try to twist it by hand if it twist easy then it is broken. You can yank n it to remove it. If lucky the whole cable comes out . Look at the little white plastic gear. If it is broken replace it. If it sounded like a squealing grinding noise then it was Speedo problem.
 
The 2" bolt falling out of the front end interest me.Don't think the speedometer retaining bolt is that long.
Do you belong to GWRRA? If so, many members are listed in the Gold Book in your area and I would be sure one of them would be willing to drop by and take a look at that bolt and the front end for you.
 
Hi John - it sounds more like something something is rubbing in the front - I see that the wheel cover has 2 bolts holding it on - is that all I have to loosen up in order to get to the cable? I don't know much about the mechanics of the trike.
 
The front axle is retained by a large 22mm nut. There are two M8 (I think) pinch bolts on each side. These enter the bottom of the lower fork tube and are used to pinch the axle so it can't come loose. They are the only two bolts that are about 2" long up here. The speedometer drive fits in the wheel hub and mates with the driving ears in the hub. There is no bolt holding it; it stays in place because there is tab on speedo gear and the forks that don't allow it to turn past where it sits. If you find one of the pinch bolts has come out, the shop may have not tightened (obviously). The wheel cover has three bolts holding it in place if memory serves (M6) one towards the top and two towards the bottom. Hopefully someone near you will take note of you problem and ride over and have a look. Don't ride the trike anymore as loose pinch bolts are very very unsafe; in fact, call the shop that did the work and ask them if they removed them.... they are socket head bolts by the way.
 
That rubbing sound can be the disk hitting the caliper. If the pinch bolt is loos and one fell off you front wheel is moving to and fro ( wobble ) I thought ( if mind is still working ) that there is a small philips head screw holding the speedometer drive in place
I just looked . There are 3 holding the cover.. 2 are on the bottom . The 3rd is up top behind the fork tube. You may have to remove a rear plastic cover also.
The pinch bolts are in the front of the axle. There is also a bolt that holds the caliper in place. I see no other bolts of that size in that area. I forgot, what Wing do you have. This is instructions for a 1500. Yes there is a small Philips head holding the drive cable.
 
John, There are two socket head bolts holding the caliper. A bigger one which is M8 and a smaller one... perhaps M5 or M6 below the larger and towards the front a tad.
 
Sorry I may be a little late on this but, you need to call the shop/dealer and demand that that they come and pickup your trike and rectify this problem.

You spent a volume of your hard earned cash and are not looking for any more than what you paid for.

We as consumers, all need to be unafraid or unintimidated to point out dealers, shops or opportunists that take advantage of our situation.

Having said that, it could simply be an over site that your dealer is willing to accept.

It's been 10 days since you posted, do you have an update?

Sure hope things worked out OK and the reason you haven't updated is because your out riding that beautiful trike :)
 
Shop finally came today to pick up my trike - it took me 3 weeks to get them here! Along with the other problems I mentioned, I let them know that I'm having trouble starting it - and on 2 occasions it did not do anything but click and I smelled electric and had to trickle charge it - it's almost like something is deadening my battery cause even they said I should be able to start it right up. I have a sneaky feeling that it may be something electrical because of the smell. I mentioned for them to check out the scrape mark right in the middle of my front tire. This was the original rubbing/wobble I was talking abt earlier. They also have the bolt that fell out and, of course, when they came today with the trailer, it started right up! All I know is that my bike has been acting up ever since I got it home from the shop, one thing after another, and I need it running again! I'll let you know what's up once I hear from them - they'll be closed until Jan 2, so it may be a while. I sure do wish I knew more about the mechanics of my trike, at least then I might be able to better understand what's going on.:censored::censored::censored:
 
When YOU hear from THEM?? I would be calling them at the opening bell on Jan. 2nd and asking a TON of questions. Not the least of which would be when your bike would be done. You may not get a FIRM estimate of time but you would have something.

After this I would certainly be looking around for someone else to do the work.

I agree with the other poster as well. For them to actually tell you that you have to wait until Jan. 2nd because they are closed is a slap in the face. You cannot honestly tell me that someone wouldn't be able to take a quick look to try and diagnose the problem and let you know......

pepperFINALLY!!! Turns out the shop I was dealing with is having financial problems and still has not reopened! Was able to talk with owner and he told me electric smell was loose battery connection and rubber cap was melted-thus, the smell. I can only figure this is why it would not start occasionally if connection was loose. The 2 in bolt was from the rotor (this is probably what caused the wobble and rubbing) and he placed it and tightened it up. The speedometer cable is broke and will need to be replaced, but he is unable to take care of this due to his financial problems - (I'm thinking maybe he owes his parts guy $$$$$), so I do have a shop referred to be by a few Patriot Guard Riders who can order the part and replace the speedo cable. The shop will be delivering back my trike tomorrow and I will then ride it over to the new shop for speedo repair. The shop I'm going to is mostly Harley and American made, but assures me they can handle the simple repairs. I have also found another shop in Myrtle Beach (abt 35 miles away) that works on all makes and models in the event this new shop can't handle something that may come up in the future - I HOPE IN THE VERY, VERY DISTANT FUTURE! Financial woes sometimes strike all of us. But it makes you look REALLY bad when you are trying to run a shop of any kind. The shop should have been up front with you from the start. Instead of giving you a run around.

I hope that you will find a decent place to take it soon that's reliable.

Gypsygal, Just make sure you get your trike back is the main thing. If they don't deliver it when they promised, I would go find the owner and get the trike.

pepperYAY - got my bike back this a.m.!!!! I took it for a short ride and it feels so good to have it home! Now I have another question - if I take it to this new shop for new speedo cable, does anyone have any idea abt how hard it is to replace and how long it should take to do (labor) - at $70/hr I'm a little gun shy and want to get an idea of what's coming. I cannot thank you all enough for paying attention to my blubbering and complaining. You people are great!:10:
 
Shouldn't take a shop with all the correct tools to change it out. Ask them when you get there about an ETA as to how long it would take.

My guess would be less than an hour. But you would probably get billed for the full amount.

This whole saga has just gotten better!:gah: I advised I got my bike back, tried to get the speedo cable off, but could not budge the screw arpound top of cable - way too tight for my hand. I have ordered a new cable and I'm expecting it today. Once it warms up a little I'll get to the new shop and see if they can do it while I hang out, so I don't have to get someone to pick me up and bring me back there. Here is the part that makes my saga even better - the old shop is still not open and on the TV news yesterday saw that the owner acknowledged that he was arrested last week for writing a bad check!!!!! (over $2,000 and a felony in NC!!!) Owner also stated that he has hired a financial advisor and hopes to open next month! At this state of the game, I'm just happy to have my trike home with me. I certainly will be less trusting in the future and I hope this new shop is honest and will help me out.:censored:
