Hello from Derby, KS

I currently ride a 2004 Suzuki Intruder 1500LC. My wife has decided to quit riding her 750 Virago and will only ride with me if we have a trike. I’m not having any luck finding a manufacturer unless I use an “outrigger trike”. I’m open to suggestions.

Hello from Michigan! :wave4:

I can't help you much with outriggers or Viragos, but I'm sure someone will have some good information for you!

That 1500 intruder would make a great trike. The 750 can be triked but not a good choice for 2 up riding. Great for the little girls and guys that want to trike them. The Voyager is an option, again for just her to ride, IMHO it would be worse than it would be as a real trike. A lot heavier to steer. A lot less power also. Which one were u thinking of TriKing? U did not make that clear?

:xzqxz: :Whack: ??? :p Someone is going to whack me for saying this!

:p Forget the outrigger type trike if you can afford to get a real trike.

 I am afraid you will spend about 2/3 the cost of a conversion for something your going to hate?
The wife will really quit riding then.

ThumbUp I did the conversion myself on the front and back end of my old Harley and have about $8,000 into the job.
There was no way i could afford a new factory built trike!
There are good deals going on kits right now and yours may cost less than mine did.

pepper The secret to a nice trike is a competent builder.
yours would not likely be near as hard as mine to do yourself.
Kits come with pretty good instructions and there are lots of folks on this forum who have done their own builds to get you past hang ups you may encounter.

:xzqxz: I don't know what the natural rake is on the 1500 intruder but you may still have to put a raked triple tree on it for easier handling with the outrigger setup?

If you don't have air shocks on it you may want to consider them?
Lousy Suspension will definitely retire her.

:gah: Having the rear tire still attached to the trike will cause you to get stuck in certain cases and i just don't care for the way they ride.
Tire inflation is critical on all trikes but the outrigger style just seems to shimmy more, plus you will likely eat back tires.:censored:

The 1500 cc motor is plenty powerful to do the job so your OK there. The intruder would make a nice looking trike.ThumbUp

it was suggested that you shoot Bazooka a message and you can also scroll down the forum page and find links for considering a trike build?
There are also links on the right side of the page you are using.
Good luck, Sell the 750 and use the money to finance your build?

trike-new trike 5-paul and new trike-20002_zps4d567b5a.jpg I have physical handicaps but i can twist a wrench and read instructions!

Sorry I wasn't clear. We're going to sell the 750 and get some kind of trike kit for the 1500. I'm thinking we'll have to use the TowPac or Voyager system.

Hello Tom and welcome to the website from the U.P. of Michigan. If you are not intent on keeping both bikes maybe a trade in would work, but you would get more money if you sold them privately then made an offer on a trike you like, whether new or used. Make sure you try them out and compare before you decide. Hope you have luck ho matter which way you choose.

Welcome Tom, from Eastern Canada. Lots of good info provided on your situation. For my 2 cents, I agree with those that suggest selling both bikes and looking for a good deal on a used trike. I think you would be much more pleased with the results - ride, handling and looks.

Good luck with whatever choice you decide to go with and again, welcome to the forum!

Cheers
Doug
