Wanted to see if anyone on here is attending the hog rally in Tn coming up,also does one have to belong to a local chapter to participate ? :)

I'm going there right after Rolling Thunder.

No, but you have to be a National HOG member to get in on any of the activities.

Yes I will be there with several of my friends in the Memphis H.O.G. Chapter. As previously stated you DO NOT have to belong to a local chapter to attend - just National H.O.G.

It is called 'The Great Smokey Mountain H.O.G. Rally' and is in Maryville, TN, from May 29th to June 2nd.

We never joined a local chapter, just with purchasing the trike we have membership in the national hog. Never been to one before. Wife made reservations in Knoxville about 20 mins. away, thanks for the replies , that answers my question. Leaving Weds morning after we shelter the dogs until Sat sometime. :)

Here is a link to the Facebook page:

https://www.facebook.com/GreatsmokymountainsHOGRally/

You can go to www.hog.com, log in and click on 'events' then 'H.O.G. Rallies,' then scroll down to the map and click on the icon located over east Tennessee. That will bring up information about the rally and you can register online there for the rally events.

Tried several times to log on and register, but my email does not have enough characters according to their site, so will just show up and will check out the fb page though, Thanks! :D

We're here but it has been and is awfully wet. A bit concerned about riding the Dragon and especially the Cherohala in these conditions. Not only rain and wet roads but fog can set in up in the mountains. Not a good combo. Just hoping for some breaks and opportunities here and there. But there are other good riding options besides those thank goodness.

Ride Safe since your there ! Seeing the projected forecast we, decided to cancel out our trip. Shame as we we're looking to attend it. :(

Alberto , or what’s left of it, is to pass by in that area of tenn. One crazy weather summer for sure so far. Ride safe.

We extended our stay in Pigeon Forge until Sunday and went over and registered for this rally. Still deciding on what, if any, guided rides we will run. Already did most of them last week on our own. It has been wet but not constant rain so all is good.

The weather forecast is just terrible for the entire area/east coast & NC is already having major flooding issues.

Did the Wheels Through Time Museum yesterday. Since we have had so much rain predicted we have avoided any organized rides with the HOG rally. Great ride over the mountain but hit a little bit of a storm coming back. No big deal, that is what goggles and rain suits are for.

More rain for today and tomorrow but it continues to be scattered. Hate to leave this area Sunday. Great riding here for sure.

Good that you got some safe riding in. I myself figure if I am out and it rains then no big deal, but if they are calling for it I will stay at home or take a cage if a necessity, wife wasn't to happy, but it is what it is. WE we're riding there and into the rain and being there and the forecast didn't look that great. Difference to me as a rain shower, but downpours and with torrential rains , and strong winds is another.:)

Ron, we were here a week before we even found out about a HOG rally. We had made advance reservations in a campground back in February. We just extended our stay a few more days. Based on the weather I certainly would not have drove any distance just to attend this rally.

I think you made a good call. Maybe consider doing what we are going to do, come to this area in October for some riding. We figure kids will be back in school and maybe the roads won't be as crowded then.

Our local HOG chapter had planned to ride down for the rally as a group last wednesday but weather forecast cancelled those plans at the last minute. :gah: A few members did make it on their own however and reported spotty weather depending on where you were.

Maybe next year.

Well, I almost made it. Came from Rolling Thunder through a lot of rain. Got to the hair pin turn on route 129 by Tapoco, NC - didn't make the turn. Ended up in the hospital in Marysville, but since they didn't have the right equipment, they sent me up to the U of T Medical Center in Knoxville. Spent 3 days there then my son and sister in law came down to get me and the trike. I'm pissed I didn't get to do the Dragon - so close. I should be pretty well mended in about 6 to 8 weeks. At least no surgery's so far. My left shoulder was x-rayed but no broken bones, but I still can't lift it. I'm thinking maybe a muscle or tendon or ? Probably need a CAT scan or something. Haven't heard yet if the bike is totaled or not. It could have been worse.

So Glad that you are here to tell us about it, yea it could've been a lot worse Prayers coming your way for strength and healing Trikes can be replaced, you can't. I just had a memory the other day. Memorial day 1972, I was 10 that year and was at an accident with a best friend at a time and witnessed the whole accident with a loss of life. Was 46 years ago that day, Hard to believe it has been that long, but time flies, just take your time and heal up. Things seem somewhat to complicated now but they will get better, just have the faith:).

Hate that for you man. Get well quick.

We were at the rally and the rain was off and on but not constant so it really didn't interfere with our plans. Great riding and seeing folks we knew there. Left yesterday (Saturday) and headed to Asheville to the Biltmore House and Gardens. There are having a Chihuly exhibit there. http://www.biltmore.com/visit/plan-your-visit/buy-tickets/chihuly-at-biltmor Veery, very impressive. He had one last year at Crystal Bridges in Bentonville, AR. Wife loves his stuff.

It could have been a lot worse, at least you're telling us what happened, not room temperature. Did you hydroplane on water or mis judge the turn? I've hydroplaned on 2 wheels, super scary. Take care and heal buddy. All is good.

Gary, Sorry to hear that you got your bell rung near Tapoco. We stayed at the Tapoco Lodge one year and I rode the wheels off of my bike through the Dragon, Cherohala Skyway, etc. Those roads have to be respected, especially for Florida flatlanders like myself. Hope that you mend quickly. As someone else said, trikes can be replaced easier than our body parts ;)

Don’t know the whole story Gary, but just glad your 👍 ok! If it was on 2 wheels maybe a worse outcome .

Hope you heal quickly. When we rode the Dragon I followed my buddy from Kentucky on his 18 trike. We were hitting it as hard as we could but it was wet that morning. My rear wheels lost traction and slid out on me on one of the really tight turns so we backed off a little. I was just lucky it wasn't on a wet bigger curve with more speed.

So sorry. But let me take the opportunity to admonish others. We all like to test our skills but if you over cook it on the road you can get seriously hurt and, worse, wait a long time for medical attention. So, all you hot dogers out there - get thee to a race track. Join a local road race club like WERA and go to school. You will find that what you thot was 100% was really only 70% - that you can go a lot faster than you think. Moreover when (not if) you crash there will be an ambulance there in seconds.

Forgive my intercession - I've lost too many friends.

Every year I take the Skyline Dr/BRP/Cherohala back from Rolling Thunder so I'm a little familiar with the roads. I've done the Dragon twice once on 2 wheels and once on 3.

It was a combination of wet road a little speed and not anticipating that there was a quick turn at the end a of a pretty nice straight road (wandering mind).

I just had a new suspension installed on the rear, it may have contributed to the accident, but I doubt it.

I'll take all the advice given here and not ride on these roads in the rain in the future. Thanks for all the best wishes.

Have you seen a lot of WERA trike races/events? Just curious because I have never heard of them.

Nope, but I only saw one real F1 bike in ten years either. But I bet that they would let you go to school if you showed up with a properly prepared trike and if you could get 5 or six buddies might even start a class. And then there are track days ..

Just got MRI back on my shoulder. 2 torn tendons on the rotator cuff. Now I need an operation on top of a neck brace. Life is not much fun - at least for a few more months. May have to retire also - don't want to - I still have to pay for all this, but don't see how I will get to work.

Oh well - a day at a time. This riding season is over.
