Uh Oh...here comes the dreaded Ukulele hijack. Can we start another thread about that please. There seems to be enough interest...

OK, I'll byte, I mean bitte, I mean bite, I think...

Yeah, me too. Seriously....never put steel strings on a uke.

What uke did you get?

I'm a guitar player so I just bought a cheap one to mess around with to see if I like it or not.

Kala KA-C Satin Mahogany Concert Ukulele

Mahogany body with traditional white binding

18 Silver Nickel Frets and Chrome Die-Cast Sealed Geared tuners

Rosewood Fingerboard and Bridge

Mahogany neck with gloss finish

Premium AQUILA NYLGUT Strings

I'm a ukulele player and have a few expensive ones. All are KoAloha brand. One is a custom tenor made from koa wood both body and neck. Another specialty is a Pineapple Sunday koa body and sapele neck. Lastly, another specialty is the Sceptre with a spruce top, and macassar ebony side and back and sapele neck. All have grover tuners.

I'm extremely fortunate.

Sounds very impressive. I'm just fiddling around with it for now, learning a few chords, etc. Will be retiring at the end of the year. Then will have more free time to get serious with it.

Every time someone mentions Ukulele all i can think of is Tiny Tim...

I know. He set the ukulele back 20 years. :AGGHH:

Listen to 4:30 minutes of this guy and Tiny Tim will be forever wiped from your memory. He shows that the uke is a real instrument, not just a Vaudeville prop. :wave4:

I've tried several times to play a stringed instrument and just can't get it. And all I've wanted to be able to do is just strum along. But I just can't get my left hand and fingers to work. No problem playing my trumpet. So I've often wondered if I should just try playing left handed since my right fingers seem to know what to do but not re-string. Just learn it upside-down and backwards. It's that dang finger between the middle and little that seem to be my problem. Just can't reach those strange positions. Backwards just might work I've thought but never tried it. Guess you might say I just blow.:xzqxz:

You can say what you want about Tiny Tim... And Miss Vicki' But those were light hearted times on TV back them... Laugh In and such...Thats why i mention him..:)
People were willing to laugh at each other 'And not throw stones at one another....Just saying thats all...:)

He's not even the best. Just the most popular. Don't get me wrong, he's really close to being the best.

When you get to that level of good, how can you tell who is the best? I just wanted to show what you could do with it.

Who were you referring to?

Self taught guitar and pedal steel, I taught my kid brother Bob of Austin Healy to play, They open for The Outlaws, Molly Hatchet Etc, their lead singer filled in for Danny Joe before he died
My youngest brother works @ Paisley Park

Man Jack, that brings back memories. Four hour shows in smoky bar rooms and then having to load out & finally get home at three or four A.M. It was fun then, but I sure don't miss it now.

Started with rock & roll in the '60s, then country in the '80s-'90s. Now I play bass with several bluegrass bands. Sure is better playing a couple of 45 minute sets at a festival or private party. A lot easier on this old body.

I had never played a stringed instrument at all before I bought my first ukulele in 2005. I still can't really play it. I know several chords and can strum, but that's about it. My daughter LOVES it when I play. Evidence is below....

This was a few years back.

Ok, I'll jump in on this thread. First, IMHO Tiny Tim was a great performer and had a killer falsetto. Don't let the weirdness factor overshadow his skill as a performer.

I play ukulele. It's a great instrument which can be quite easy to play or incrediably challenging. It travels nicely and will provide many hours of enjoyment at all levels of proficiency.

I feel for you there. Never got big enough for a bus. Started with a small trailer and graduated to a '76 Dodge window van with one bench seat in the back. The rest was full of equipment.:AGGHH:
