Thinking it is time.

Hi all,

I have a 2015 Road Glide Special I bought new. I had a 2005 Ultra Glide that I bought new but crashed it near Gallup New Mexico in June 2014. My rear tire exploded and came of the rim. Broke some ribs and my left collarbone. Some serious road rash. I started thinking about trikes after that. Harley would not deal on their Tri-Glide and frankly I wanted a new style i.e., frame mounted fairing. So I stayed with two wheels. I'll be 62 soon and my knees have both been scoped'. The weight of the Road Glide is starting to concern me some too. My local indie mechanic is an authorized Champion dealer. He recommends the solid axle. My wife may ride with me more than she does now once I trike it. I have been riding since I was 14 and have owned 8 motorcycles. I am very aware of the difference in steering will go easy at first to get the hang of it. I live in Southern Maryland so our riding season from March to November. Three wheels may extend that some if it is not too cold.

Now all I have to do is pull the trigger.

Welcome to Trike-Talk, David ....:wave4: Pull the trigger , And yes a trike will extend the riding season, I ride all winter. I couldn't do that on any of the two wheels iv'e had...

Welcome David, from a little farther down the Bay from you. The Road Glide makes a good looking trike. Several of our member have them.

Welcome

The trike is a world of difference....try different type kits if you can. IMO...Motor Trike is very well made, however, I must admit,it is the only one I have personal knowledge of. Good luck on your search.

Welcome to Trike talk.I have had two Road Glides and getting rid of my last one was a very difficult decision,we looked at the cost of a motor trike kit, installed with reverse and trees was upward of 15k installed on my bike that had 30,000 miles on it. So after much thought we traded for a 2016 Tri Glide. It was rather strange at first and it took me about 2000 miles to really get comfortable with it.

That was in April of 2016,by Sept of that year we put 8000 miles on it.So in Sept of 16 we traded for a 17 Tri Glide and we love it.I said for many years that i would never pull a trailer with my bike.Well i now have a small trailer and just love it.Do I still miss two wheels,of course and i will have one set up for solo in the future.I turned 64 this year and my knees and hips are going south. My wife gave her 93 FXLR to our son a few years ago because she didn't feel stable on it anymore.

I can say with complete honesty that switching to a trike was the best thing we have done in many years. She now wants to ride all the time,we even take the trailer to the grocery store so we can get a ride in.It isn't something that is an easy switch for some,so take your time and if possible ride a few different types, including the Can Am.And choose wisely, good luck with your decision.
