The violins of autumn........

My Dad was in the Big Red One. He had already waded ashore into North Africa and then again into Sicily when he waded onto Omaha beach early on the morning of June 6th . He often lamented about how he lived while so many others died. When I was a young boy I asked him if he was a hero. His response has stuck with me. He simple said, "No. The hero's are still in France.". I wouldn't really understand what he meant until I was much older.

They were the "Greatest Generation"! They didn't look at themselves as being hero's, they were just doing their job and fighting for freedom. Their ranks are shrinking every day and soon there will be none left.

Three of my Uncles were in North Africa.... Two were then sent to Normandy' They both came back.
One was sent to Italy he's still there in Anzio...There all together now...
Like you say soon the'll all be together.....
