I know this is most likely an old subject, but did a search and didn't find what I am looking for. I have a 2008 Ultra Classis that has been converted to a trike using a Motortrike kit. Has air bag suspension on the rear.

I am researching how heavy of a teardrop it should be able to safely tow, combined rider and passenger weight is approx 400. The trike has the stock 96 cu in motor.

Thanks for the info..

I really don't know that much about trikes but just common sense to me says driving an extra wheel and carrying some extra weight would seem like you would be asking a lot of a 96 with nothing else going on even with a Stage 1. Don't think I'd do it without some motor work of some kind as in a Stage 2 conversion. Cams can really change what an engine can do. I don't think a Stage 3 is needed but talk about changing an engine, this really gets it done. Personally I wouldn't do a Stage 3 without doing a full Dyno tune on it. But I would do a Stage 2 with mild cams and use a canned tune. But you could do better if it was Dynoed. Just my thoughts on it. The whole cam change can get confusing alone with the different makers and what they claim they'll do. The very easiest is staying with what Harley offers.
