I have read where converting to a tall windshield on the TG will reduce head shake and turbulence. Has anyone converted their windshield?

I have read where converting to a tall windshield on the TG will reduce head shake and turbulence. Has anyone converted their windshield?

I have a Roadglide with a conversion, it had a 9" HD Windsplitter on it when I got it. I am 6' tall, 30" inseam and driving it home on it's virgin trip (virgin to me that is) and it beat me up. I put a 13" Longride Re-curved Shield and it was night and day. I will attach pic's of both.00505_jMvh36ndoxO_600x450.jpgimage.jpg

I went with a National Cycles 18" windshield and it is great. Wife has less turbulance and is more comfortable. I look through it but it is so clear that I forgot about it after about 2 minutes.

Once we put on the Zeppelin seat which raises the riding positions, the wife was taking a beating due to the turbulence from the stock shield. I ordered a 13" Freedom and once it was installed, the Misses was a very happy camper once again.

I have always kept the stock windshield, until I bought the '14 TG. The windshield is entirely too short so I had to buy the old stock size.

I don't understand Harley First the eliminate the CB on the '14 then they put a %$#@ tiny windshield on it - at least they didn't put the f%$#g stupid 3" one like they do on the StreetGlide. To me that's moronic. :gah:

And they made the tourpac smaller - they say it's a few cu centimeters bigger - BULL. I could get larger items in the older one then the new one because of the sloping sides.

A couple of days ago I installed a LRS flat top, 10", light tint. I was using a LRS Ultra, 10", light tint. This was a great windshield, just when we were in nasty weather the Sweetie was getting to much bad stuff. The Flat top is a bit wider at the top. I have a couple of pics for comparison. That last picture was not suppose to be in this post. I tried to edit and remove the pic, just couldn't make it work. LOL It is a picture of the trike that has converted to a painting using an app, called superphoto. Jim

Clock windshield check them out

My dealer let me try out multiple different windshields. The best was the clock werks 12 in what a difference and with the down force on the front wheel my triglide handles better. Before you buy check them out.

Of all the bikes i had only one VTX1800 had a tall windshield, And that was when i was smoking Cigars and could go 70 and puff away.. The downside was in the rain and at night the oncoming headlights from cars made it hard to see through it'...I ratter see over then through...

My windshield is at eye level. I can adjust my Road Zepplin seat to look over or look through depending on my mood. I can also scrunch down or straighten up to look over/through the windshield.
The windshield that comes stock on the TG is too low (for me). I replaced it with the old standard height (10" I believe) windshield.

I installed a 10 inch flat top Long Ride Shields on the tri glide. Today I rode around 130 miles on the interstate. Good speeds, kept it under the triple digits. I sure am impressed. I have used LRS shields on the ultra and the tri glide. The wife was complaining about wind when we were scooting along above 75 MPH. I bought this shield based upon a friend's recommendation and the wind is no longer an issue and I am not looking thru the windshield. Jim

Clearview 11" Med smoke tent w/recurve...can see over it and not a thin shield...

Like RickDeVon I put a Clearview on my 2003 Ultra Classic (converted to a trike in 2015) about 5 years ago. I think it is the 11 inch clear. Since 2011, when I installed it, I have had no issues with it. I can see over it which I could not do with the stock unit and the curve at the top cuts some of the wind for my wife. I also like this shield because other than the slight curve at the top and that it is a bit shorter it looks very much like the stock shield. Greezy

When I test drove the 2016 it had stock windshield on it, I measured it and looks to be 10 inches. I know the girl friend said she could really feel the wind so I guess I will be trying out different windshields myself so she can be happy. I just don't want a tall one that I have to look thru which I guess would be ok, so maybe a curve at the top will help out with her anyway, time will tell and depends how often she rides with me, not much I will stay with what on it now. I know I want clear instead of smoke, looks like most of them are smoke, never had one so I don't know much about them.

All for now Trampas

We have a light tint 8" LRS on our converted Street Glide. I prefer looking over the shield.<br />
May try out a flat top LRS,next time they have a big sale.

I just ordered a 10" light tint LRS Flat Top for our 2014. If it lessens the passenger buffeting my wife will be very happy. I'm told it will be about stock height which is perfect for me at 6' 2" to look over.

Thanks to all of you for your comments and advice.

I like the look of this one. I will buy one when the time comes. Don't have a passenger to worry about. ThumbUp
Looks like a standard shield.

Can't stand the look of those other deformed shields - they look real dorky to me. JMHO

I haven't pick the trike up yet, still waiting on some parts which they told me should be here by Thursday and then they will put them on. As I said in my other post the stock is 10" high which is fine for me, the girl friend felt the wind, told her she could feel on the other bikes as well. Now as I viewed these other posts on what they put on, they are taller than me. I am only 5' 9" and the g/f is 5' 4", I guess if I could find a 10" recurve might do the trick, I just don't know. I know the dealer has a 12" coming in that I could try but I have a feeling that I would have to look thru it, the 10" on it now I can see over it, basically about nose high, I may just stand my ground and tell her to deal with it. I know I would like a windshield that I could wear a hat while riding without it blowing off, my friend has a 2003 ultra and he rides all the time with hat on. I have had 2 things cut off my forehead in the last few years, guess they called it melonoma or something to the effect, the doctor wasn't to happy, I go every year and have something cut off, guess I could wear a skull cap but personally I look better in a hat than a skull cap and to me I don't look good with hat either, some people do and some don't, guess I'm in the don't part.

I see harley a windsplitter but don't know anything about them, looks to be wider down at the bottom. Decisions, decisions, have a lot to learn, sure like this site for information, looks to be a trail and error thing, which is costly to say the least.

My wonderful wife prefers I leave her flat top 9" just where it is. the best windshield we have come across yet. A matter of fact I have a new 9" recurve still in the box that can go to a new home if anyone is interested.ThumbUpride safely fred
