Need to ride up to Hagerstown Md on Thursday to get the brake recall done. What all are they supposed to do? They say they need to keep the trike overnight.

According to the Recall Notice, they are supposed to replace the rear brake mastercylinder, replace the secondary mastercylinder and flush the entire brake system. Your trike has never had that done before so it is a great service to be performed for free. All is good !!:Coffee:

They have to keep it overnight because they don't want to work on it when you get there. I made an appointment with a dealer I had never been to before and told him I would like to wait for it because of the distance I had to ride. I left there 2 hours later with the trike job completed. Three of my friends did the same thing with their bikes or trikes.

Mine was done in just under 3 hours. The brakes were noticeably better after the update.

Not sure about the statement of a complete brake flush????

Thinking it's just the rear part of the system that gets it. Might be extra charge for the whole system?

Correct ... only 6 of the 9 caliper pistons are activated by the rear master cylinder and get flushed. All 3 in the rear caliper, the upper and lower in the LF caliper, and the center one in the RF.

I hope the brake system is better after the work just maybe the squealing will calm down. Have had to deal with it from day one. Since the distance is about 70 miles will get my nephew to follow me up and go back on Saturday to pick it up. Just got off the phone and they said I need to leave it overnight. They don't want

the bike going out with any brake problems.

Same deal here with the distance involved. Local Honda dealer wouldn't touch it because it was a trike. The only trike brake recall they did the tech broke something and it was their nickel to fix it. Trailered it 150 miles to Abilene last November...it was very cold. Left at 4:00am to allow plenty of travel time to be there by 8:00 sharp ...and we were headed back home by 11:00am. I truly could not tell much difference in the feel of the brakes but did notice the occasional squeal was gone.

Mine had to stay overnight and I had em flush the entire system. The extra cost was not all that much for that.

All my normal maintenance is done in my own shop and I also service quite a few other bikes as well.

One thing I've noticed, almost every Wing that comes into my shop that has had the brake recall done, has had the right side fender clip broken off, including my own. An owner would never notice it until he had to take the front fender off for some reason such as brake pads, tire replacement, etc.

This is the speed nut that slips onto the fender Tupperware where the Allen head screws into. It seems the right side is the weaker one and is usually broken from over-tightening.

It's the cost of a new fender to fix. Make sure all of yours are not broken before it goes in and make sure they're not broken when it comes out.

Rode it up on a Thursday left it there. Picked it up on Saturday. Called them Saturday Morning to see if I should head up there and they told me they needed to re-bleed the brakes. about 2 hours later they called and said come get it.

I must say that the squeal is even worse than it has always been. Maybe 3d set of pads may need a re-due. Was wondering if the slotted rotors are more prone to squeal? Anyway, the brakes do stop the trike. There must have been quite a bit of pad drag because most of my riding during 50,000 miles has been out on the highway. Will have to check to see if the brake dust on the wheels is any less.

Jim, I responded to your request to How Did the Re-Call go.

While I have you, I was wondering does the drive shaft have zerk fittings on my trike? I think I remember you did grease my drive shaft last time I was over your place. Wow, that universal joint really went west.

Bill,

The front u-joint and forward part of the driveshaft is OEM HONDA.

There is no grease fitting in the front.

The rear u-joint has a zerk fitting for greasing. Most of the pictured failures of the driveline seem to be the front OEM u-joint.

There will be a noise when the driveshaft spins prior to any failure. I am sure there is also a clunking and lack of smooth performance as well.

These symptoms are largely ignored when a catastrophic failure does occur.

IMHO ... Helmets with headsets blasting make one oblivious to the fact that their flight is going down.:Shrug:

I haven't done the recall yet on my trike. Kinda' afraid they would screw it up. :xzqxz: If I had a 2 wheeler no problem, but with my trike there would be other things to do and Murphys' Law would apply.
