T/P Harbor Freight Trailer

I just finished assembling my H/F Trailer. I couldn't believe that they recommend 60 psi in the tires. I've had small light trailers before this one
and never ran over 30psi........Suggestions anyone ???

I'm not familiar with the harbor freight trailer. I have 205/15's on my sure trac trailer & they recommend 50lbs.

Look at the tire, what does it say ? max pressure is stamped on it.

I understand what you guys are saying. However, mine weighs 144lbs empty and will probably never exceed 250lbs. It has 8" tires, and with 60lbs of air will probably bounce like a basket ball. An airborne trailer is not what I really want to tow....

On my HF Tagalong, I have 12" tires now, and the 8" on it before, I ran/run 20 PSI in them. They never look low, I've never had a problem.

My 8.00" load range "C" tires call for 90psi. That's what I ran. The load range "B" called for 60psi. I was carrying a gl1500/ motortrike on a 4X8 Triton aluminum trailer. I had the load range "b's" on it and at 60psi they were overloaded. The "C's" at 90psi did the job flawlessly, from DFW Texas to East China Mi. at 75-80 mph!!

I admit, I was at the ragged upper limit of the trailer. The "c" tires called for 749 lbs. per tire giving me about 1500 lbs. capacity. I had extra bearings, seals and a complete hub assembly PLUS 4 spare tires! I wasn't worried! As to a trailer with a light load as we would put behind our bikes/trikes, you can keep almost any pressure you would want in the tires. BUT as you go to a lighter pressure, the tire's flat (bottom) is constantly changing its position causing the tire to be flexing constantly which in turn caused excessive heat build up. (these tidbits came from a wheel and tire engineer at Chrysler many years ago!)

If youre running at Harbor Freight tagalong similar to a Piggybacker I would run 20 -24 lbs with the 12 inch tires. If youre taking the tire pressure as being whats stamped max on the side of the tire your overfilling the tires for street use. These gentleman here can give you some good advice on what should be a good working pressure for you.

Yeah, they will bounce around with that much air in them. I only ran 20psi, in the 8" & 12", and had only one leaf spring on the axle. Probably never had more than 150# in it, but it rode well on decently paved roads. Rough roads, or hit a pot-hole, it would still bounce some.

This is just what I do. You may experiment with air pressure, as I did, to find the best pressure for your ride.

You have to understand that the PSI on the sidewall is the Max pressure for the tire, not the only pressure. Too much air and you will only be using the center of the tread and will bounce around allot. On my Aluma MCT the right pressure ended up being 32 lbs.
