Still gaining confidence

I have had my trike now for a little over three months. It's been a GREAT ride so far. Both in the learning curve and just the bike itself.

I have had no issues with the Hannigan kit and all seems to be running very smoothly. Heat issues in the, sometimes, horrendous traffic here have been nominal.

Riding has been a exercise in learning a different style. The first few weeks going through sweeping turns scared the :censored: out of me. But, with the independent suspension, that has almost become a non-issue as my confidence level has steadily improved.

Riding the Interstate, especially here, was interesting at first. I wasn't sure how to handle the "floating" aspect of a trike. But, with all the bumps and rises from various repairs to the roads, it's something that I have adjusted to and I no longer feel like I am going to fly off the road.

There were many, MANY people that sent me messages with suggestions, comments and other things that really helped in the choice of a new trike. Those people get a HUGE thanks from me.ThumbUpThumbUp

I was told, on more than one occasion, to expect people to be really interested in the trike when stopping at places. Well, initially, I took this with a grain of salt. However, I have found that, frankly, if you are NOT a friendly person then a trike might not be the best choice. There have been MANY times I have stopped at places, gas stations, Lowes, restaurants, and had people just walk up and start in with the questions. Not that I have a problem talking to them. For me, it's rather enjoyable. I made what I thought was going to be a 10 minute stop at Lowes for an item. I was there for over an hour standing in the parking lot answering tons of questions from a variety of people.

Needless to say, for the past three months I have been extremely happy and VERY satisfied with my choice. The trike, the dealer ((Coach Rice Trikes)), and the kit manufacturer ((Hannigan)). They have been more than helpful with my occasional inane questions.

The various boards have also been a great help. The responses come relatively fast whenever any question is asked. Whether by myself or others.

pepperWhat a GREAT group of people Trikers are!!!!! pepper

Great update, Harry! ThumbUp

Like you, I'm also getting use to my new ride. Hopefully in the near future, we can meet up at some point. :)

I'm flying to Minneapolis tomorrow and going to ride my new Trike 665 miles home on Thursday. I test rode a trike 26 miles once before. Sounds like I'll learn a lot on my way home

Took me a couple of weeks before I felt confident enough to hit the interstate. Around here the drivers are idiots. 80-90mph drivers are the rule instead of the exception.

Enjoy your trike and take your time learning the ins and outs!!!!!

You'll be a veteran rider by the time you get home. Ride safe! ThumbUp

"HogEater" started with the 2000 Honda Valkyrie Interstate I had years ago. The guys I rode with were, predominately, Harley riders. They took a look at it and said...."Man, I bet this thing could eat up our hogs".....And since then I have been known as the "HogEater". Only seemed appropriate to carry it on with this, since it's an 1800 engine and the Valkyrie was a 1500.

That smile on your face tells a huge story. I am glad you found joy as we did in riding a trike. You are doing it right, take it slow, get to know your ride. You have a long time to put on the miles and memories. Ride safe.

I actually have to go WAY back to my high school years to find a time when I felt this good about a vehicle........

And that is a good thing!..You should feel good and be proud, as that is an awesome lookin' machine. I ride regularly with a Bud that has a two wheeled Honda VTX 1800, and he is the only one I ride with that can smoke me in the curves and steep hills. He is also a very accomplished rider. You do have a sweet ride there and when you find your comfort zone, you should have fun eatin' some Hogs! Some of us will keep munchin' on metrics too... Ride Safe Harry!!!
