Steering bearings

I perfer Roller Bearings becasuse they distribute the load over a larger area as opposed to ball bearings. Ask any engineer or bearing distributer and they will verify this. Spread the load over a larger area and the bearing will last longer and the movement will be smoother. I have had the factory ball bearings changed out to roller bearings,on both of my 1800's and this reduces the amount of whooble in the front tire or removes it totally depending on shape of the tire. All the 1500 had Roller bearings (I have been told) but Honda took the cheaper way out and used Ball bearings on the 1800's.

I know that the VTX 1300s had ball bearings as well... the biggest culprit for steering wabble...once changed out to tapered roller bearings, the problem looked after itself.... at least this is what I've been told. To get a new bearing, basically all you need to know is the outer diameter of the bearing (outer race that fits into the steering head) and the inner diameter (inner race that fits around the triple tree post) ...then take those measurements, or the old bearing to a place that sells bearings. Caution- removing the old bearing races may require a press and/or other specialized tools.
