Spinner Hub Caps

I did the other night before I dipped it in rubber. Came off nicely. The plastic hub cap is pretty thick. (~1/8") I wouldn't use excessive force to yank it off, but the spinner will certainly make it easier to remove. I'll know more after I reinstall them with the rubber dipping. They were drying overnight. I'll check to see how much grip I get out of it tonight.

Great choice I was all flames before my wife decided she like Willie G skulls, you have to keep them happy. Just hope she does not decide on the new skulls. Last count I think I have 45 Willy g skulls on it. Still interested how dipping holds the hub caps on.

Tested the rubber grips last night and they worked great. Good grip, nice and snug but not so tight that it was a problem to remove them. Waiting on caliper trim disks to come in to finish up. Will post one final picture when done.

First class look with the brake caps on there too! Nice idea and addition to the spinners caps. Well done!<img src="images/smilies/thumbup.gif" border="0" alt="" title="ThumbUp" class="inlineimg" />

Is your "Hubcap" a Harley part?

I ordered my cap the other day and it look different, not as clean looking as yours.

Thanks!

I bolted the spinner to the hubcap with a 5/16-18 x 1-1/4" socket cap screw, fender washer and internal lock washer. The 1-1/4" length was perfect. I also used "blue" loctite to add a little more grip. That's it. Done.

I'm going to experiment- Instead of using silicone to help hold the hubcap to the rim, I'm going to try dipping the prongs in that liquid rubber stuff used to coat tool handles.

Myxcape,

There are two different hub caps you can buy for your TriGlide:

P/N 40900044 - Dome Wheel Center Cover Kit

P/N 83841-09 - Wheel Center Cover Kit

It's the Dome kit that is smooth.

The Harley Dome cover works great. When the aluminum trim rings are removed, the 3-1/4" base of the spinner fits right over the top of the groove. See pictures on page 1. The lower profile keeps the spinner close to the rim. To me, it looks better and reduces any out-of-balance issues with the spinner. So far at 70 mph+ on bumpy roads, they still sit snugly in place. The rubber coating really seems to help grip.

You did a beautiful job with the spinners and giving us very good visuals plus written instructions. I'm getting excited. I was afraid the domed hubcaps would not work. Glad you gave us your thoughts on those. I had already bought my hubcaps when I saw the post about the spinners. I was afraid I was going to have to spend extra money. Now I need to find a way to get my spinners ordered and surprise Ron with another project! :)

Thanks for your response, it's appreciated!

Thought I'd revive this thread. Saw some plastic 3 bar spinners on Ebay. Wondered if they might be better to use on the plastic dome hub caps?

I have the Wiley Shiney baby moons (metal)and think spinners would look awesome. Not sure how they would hold up on a plastic hub cap.
