I may be tough, but I can be more stubborn.
I knew it hurt for the last three months.....but felt better, then got hurt again.
Went to the Orthopedist this morning and I have been hobbling around on the fractured tibia/platella since Feb. May have torn ligaments or tendons, but will see about that after my next appointment. Luckily, I don't need surgery as the Dr. said it was healing, but arthritis is setting in. Cortisone shot, although it doesn't feel any better this evening.
How long does a cortisone shot take to start working? I'm ready to RIDE......Trike and horse.

Well... I know George hasn't been tossing you around the house so what the heck did ya do kiddo?????

Have had several of dem shots. Some work, some don't. The ones that do take a few days to a week or more to help out. One minute you will be saying OUCH and the next thing you know you forgotten all about it. Weird how that works.

Hope you get back to fighting shape real soon !!

The only cortizone shot I've ever had was in the knee and it worked so fast that my walk to the car was without pain. Doctor told me cortizone shots also contain pain medication.

Not sure what caused the fracture......I had 2 things happen within days. My horse tripped me up and I fell on my left knee and was injured enough that I couldn't stand for a few. But once I got up, it hurt but was able to use it. 2 days later, my dog and I were racing for the door and I got caught up and twisted my knee/leg....that is when I heard the pop. Dr. says usually it is from a brunt force blow, so I also think I may have torn something when frolicking with doggy. Who knows. If this shot works, them I am good to go.........since it is a stable fracture and they wouldn't do surgery anyway.

So George is off the list of culprits.....

Wait a minute... you aren't a nurse, are you, Joan? We are notorious for thinking we can handle it ourselves. We might even be stubborn too..... comes from dealing with aching muscles and painful backs, after hours of caring for bed-bound patients that weigh at least twice what we do, I think. But it's scary that you have been able to keep going for so long with a fracture or two! Hugs to you, my friend.

Not a nurse,Lesley. Just nursemaid to 1500 lb animals and there is no such thing as a sick day! Wouldn't change it though, except a vacation would be nice!

Did the same thing myself... but due to arthritis pain, I didn't find out about the break till about 6 weeks later when I was into the doctors about something else. The huge bruise on my leg didn't clue me in either...duh. I've had the cortisone shots as well...like already said, some work, some don't. For me, if they work, it's within a coupla days.

I have had more cortisone shots than I care to remember and for me the relief was almost instant, many made a huge difference, some very little, but none lasted very long. Now, the length of relief may have been my fault since I seldom followed the Doc's orders and was back on the race bikes within days. :D
I hope you get back on your trike & horse very soon and you DON"T have to tell your Doc when you take those rides! :wave4:
