Skipping Gears

You can skip gears but there is only one scenario I would think in which you might want to. If I am in 4th gear and I rev it up to 80 MPH I will upshift twice through 5th and into 6th. Otherwise I generally don't . As others have said never lug your motor.
 
Like Rick said, only time I do it is if I have accelerated hard, to a higher RPM and then am settling into a cruise, but never where I will land in a gear at less than 2800-2900 RPM.
