Silly Sissy Gloves

About 10 years ago, I won a pair of gloves at an Ohio bike shop, a local drawing. (It was not an HD dealership.) They were white leather with orange highlights, came up like gauntlets, and were covered in velcro straps and titanium plates. Not really my cup of tea. I threw them on a shelf, and their they lay. Today, I went out with the wife to trim the last remaining GD hedge apple tree. These vile plants have thorns all over them and are a very hard wood. I use pruners to lop off branches, but when it was time to pick them up, the thorns got me. I went into the garage and spied my titanium alternative lifestyle gloves. They were a little stiff, but by gosh I was able to pick up about 90 pounds of thorny branches without further injury.

Here in S. AR, those are called Bois D'Arc and you are right. The wood is extremely hard and the thorns are horrible. I have even tried a chain saw and it threw sparks from the chain on that wood. Glad you found a good use for those gloves. I probably wouldn't even have thrown them on a shelf. Trashcan would have been their new home. We did call them hedge apple trees when I lived in Illinois. Made good fencing to keep animals in or out and the squirrels loved the fruit.
