Side marker lights

While driving on a very dark and fairly narrow rural road the other day I was surprised when an oncoming motorcycle turned out to be a trike. As a trike is not much narrower than a small car – my Miata is only about six inches wider than my Champion trike – I wondered a couple of things:

Has anybody had any incidents because an oncoming motorist could not determine the width of your trike at night? Also, are there specific forward facing trike side marker lights available and what Federal requirements do they have to meet such as mounting height, wattage etc.

Conn. no light lower 18" .or higher than 4 feet. .White or.Orange facing forward Red or Orange facing rear , no blue lights in any direction . Although I never heard of someone being fined for any of this, the lights should be on the outer most corners of the vehicle. I never felt like i was being approached by a car that thought I was narrower than I am. but then I stay away from the dreaded Yellow line .

I had the same concerns, and went to autozone and purchased 2 amber reflectors (about the same size as the ones on the front fork) and installed the on the outside of my rear fenders facing forward. I believe there's a picture showing them in my profile album.
