I finally got to service my trike yesterday, after trying to get it serviced at a BMW dealer (200 miles away!) and an independent bike shop without success. We made ramps for my buddy's 4 poster hoist and we were able to service both trikes. He rides a Honda/Leyman(sp). Things that I found:

1. 3/8" bolt that secures a part of the suspension is an inch too long on both sides, allowing for only 1-1 1/2" of suspension travel before hitting the frame. Easy fix!

2. The grease zerks on the swing arms are oriented 1 up & 1 down! Another easy fix. Both are now pointing down!

I wonder why the previous owners didn't address these issues???

Even with a funnel with a flexible spout, it took 15 minutes to get the oil in the crankcase. Hannigan put the running board brace right across the fill plug!

The sight glass in near impossible to see!

It's no wonder the dealers shy away from servicing trikes!!

Rant over, be safe!

I concur with you on the crankcase filling and sight glass! Another fun chore to do is the brake system and hydraulic clutch flush although not that difficult is very time consuming especially if you have to accomplish it without a lift!.....:xzqxz:

For the next service, I will use a manual suction pump in reverse.....fill the pump with oil and "inject" it into the crank case!!!!

Moved on!

The suspension bolts that you mentioned , were they on the sway bar ends?

I am hearing some clunking on minor bumps in the road.

Would like to find a shock upgrade.

So you know, Oldrodder has sold his BMW trike and moved to the H-D page. You might get a quicker response from him there. As far as the shock upgrade, you may be better off to contact Hannigan and inquire what type shocks are used for the conversion, then go from there........:wave4:
