Thank you for the nice welcome. New to this forum. Been riding for over 55 years. Had honda's , triumphs ,Harleys . Now that im older with a bad knee I have graduated to a 2007 Honda Gl 1800 Motor Trike. Love it but took some time going from 2 wheels to 3. Live in western pa for the summers and Central florida for the winters. Have a problem with the trike and thought i would see if there is any thoughts about it. Two years ago while riding I could not get the trike in neutral was like the shifter could not find neutral. Could not get the trike to start even pulling in the clutch. Yesterday it happend again. Tried to get a tow to get the bike home could not find anyone to tow a trike. Fooled with the shifter and got it to start up. It seemed that it was stuck in 4th gear. Was only 8 miles from the house so was able to get it home since it was a level back road. When I got it home I was able to shift to neutral and all the gears with no problem. A friend told me to shift it in neutral before shutting it down then after you shut it off to then shift into first gear so it dosen't roll. Any thoughts appreciated.

Welcome to Trike Talk’ John👍👍..

Hi John, welcome to the forums. I have no suggestions for your problem, not familiar with the Hondas at all.

John,

Welcome to TT. The situation you encountered is not unusual. Shutting the bike down when there is pressure on the transmission gears can result in the lock-up condition you experienced. It's happened to me a couple times too. The best thing is to make sure your clutch micro switches are clean and working properly. That way you can start the bike even when it's in gear and move it slightly and free up the binded transmission. An alternative is to have a friend help you rock the bike forward and backward a little to get things unlocked. I think your friend's suggestion to shut the bike down when in neutral will help. Those of us not having a parking brake do risk having the transmission bound up when we park on funny angles using the transmission to keep us in place. Hope this helps..... Jim
