Hey guys, My wife and I just got back from a trip to florida and we passed through Alabama and just fell in love with it. the people were awsome. I like the looks of everything down there. Due to medical reasons I will soon have to leave my beloved state of wisconsin. We are seriously thinking about moving to bama. I have three different lung illnesses and it can be difficult for me to breath at times. I know it is not a dry state but how serious is the humitity down there in the summer. I would really appreciate any feed back anyone has to offer. Thanks

Torchman sorry to here about your problems. I live in SC and we do have the humidity but it depends where you are (coast or mountains). I would check with a number of southern states and ask for info on weather and humidity. Remember the average temp can be a little misleading, real cold/real hot can give a good average. Our cold would never be like you have in WI. This weekend we will be in the 70s, good riding weather. We had a number of days in Dec that were in the low to mid 70s. I am not sure of the humidity difference between the Gulf coast and the Atlantic coast. Wherever you go you would be welcome. Check tax base, coast of living and home prices. Good luck.

Bazooka is from AL and a couple more on the forum. I don't know many states in the south that don't have high humidity in the summer. It might be better down on the coast.

Mu oldest daughter lived in Charleston, SC for a period of 4 years. You couldn't go outside in the summer, well if you wore your swinsuit maybe! LOL

This past December, we rode our bikes to Key West, one day couldn't breath for the humidity. just sayin! LOL

I guess since we are have this global warming thingy, Charleston has cooled off a bit! LOL Are you from SC or just moved in from a northern state? It has been two years since Ron and I rode down there from Murrills Inlet, I can't remember what month, but summer time, I'm telling you the humidity was very present. We didn't go to the beach, but if you can stay on the beach 24/7, that would be good. I'm not saying I don't love Charleston, I do. Probably as much an anyone. I live in SE Tennesse and we have a lot of humidity here. I have lived here all my life except the first five years. There is no place like the south, the people, the life style and the weather, although it can get a little cold here in TN, I wouldn't trade it for anything. ThumbUp

I have a heart condition and asthma, and the humidity hasn't given me a bit of trouble. Now if you suffer with pollen alergies, you will need to be very selective where you live in Bama. Peanut pollen is brutal in the southeast part of the state. Cotton can be pretty tough as well. I haven't had any trouble and I love it here.

If you are serious, begin your research now for the first question you will be asked when you move in: Are you for Alabama or Auburn?

If you are looking for a warmer climate with low humidity, I would recommend Arizona. Not Phoenix area though (bad respiratory area). Tucson is nice. My parents live just north in Saddlebrooke (retirement community).

I agree i was born and raised in Alabama other than the time in the military and some of that was being stationed in Alabama. I love the Huntsville area u can be in the mountains or on flat land, the rivers are beautiful. And people are friendly..
My suggestion would be to come down during July-Aug time frame, if it suits you then u might look into moving here. It is endless. On the places to live, country/city.
Also in the Huntsville area every now and then they get snow, so u can get the full 4 seasons..

I live in Demopolis Al. And work outside on the river, the summer months here can be very humid, we do not camp during July or Aug, because it is too hot to enjoy the outside.

Our humidity is not unbearable down here. I can think of a lot worse things than humidity, living in the south is not one of them! Since Alabama is a right-to-work state, finding a job shouldn't be much of a problem. Come on down!

I can verify the beauty of Alabama and the friendliness of the people. I've done a fair amount of riding and camping in AL over the years and love it. I'm originally from WI and can say that AL's country is very much like Wisconsin's, except you don't have the harsh, long winters. Alabama's location is great too. You can hit a lot of different states whether North, South, East or West Good luck!

was stationed at fort Rucker for a short period while i was in the army. you are right, it is a butiful state. very laid back. at least it was. if you relocated you are not that far form florida. Datona bike week in the future?

I have to share a story about Alabama! My wife and I were touring AL and stopped in for breakfast at a Mom and Pop restaurant in a small town outside of Birmingham. The waitress came over and took our order. We had been living in WI at the time, and I'd fallen into the habit of referring to sausage patties as "hockey pucks". When I ordered "hockey pucks" with my eggs, she gave me a funny look and asked "What's that?" I quickly apologized and told her it was sausage patties. She let out with the biggest laugh, took the rest of our order and then ran back into the kitchen. We could hear her telling her co-workers about "that feller calls sausage patties "hockey pucks", and then lots of laughter following. When she brought out our food, she set my plate down in front of me and said that the cook gave me a double order of "hockey pucks", because they all got a big kick out of that one!

Yeah, I like Alabama just fine and those "hockey pucks", were delicious!

Been here all my life and highly recommend it.Great riding,weather is usually bearable,and the folks are easy to get along with.I would say though that if need gainful employment that you should find a job first.They are pretty scarce.There is a saying here that was made famous by a former gov.YA'LL COME!ThumbUp

After being stationed in Western South Dakota fro 5 years (dry black hills, 3,000 feet), went to Squadron Officers School in Montgomery enroute to England. Was there from May through August. Never sweat so much in my entire life. Use the sport brand deoderant and good laundry soap. Got used to changing clothes half way through the day. But, if you stay inside.......

Ooooooooo, Ruidoso!! Close enough to ABQ & Santa Fe for some fun, cool in the summer, casinos nearby, horse racin', little bit of snow in the winter - sounds perfect - and TWO bike rallies every year!!!

Well gonna have to do some thinkin on this but if it isn`t sticky for way more than a couple months or so I think we might give it a whirl. Got a few years yet I hope. Want to try to let my kids finish school. I`m not to concerned about employment for myself by then I will be ready to caller job well done. My wife works in the medical field and she never has a problem finding employment. I don`t want to be to far from wi. We have properties here and family. And I do not know where my kids will relocate to yet. So I will just keep thinkin for now but we thought it would be a wonderful place to hang our hats for a few years. Thanks for all the replies,
