Riding faster than 55

Today, I went for a test ride on my second CSC trike. At speeds around 50 or greater they both felt as though it was a strain on the rear end. Everything else about the CSC was great. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this. The Hannigan and Roadsmiths i rode were great at 55 and above.

Until today I was sold on the CSC but now i am not so sure. Hannigan may be back in the picture.

Any input would be greatly appreciated

I can't speak for the CSC or the Hannigan, but my new Roadsmith on my 2006 GL 1800 is smooth as silk at 80 mph. I haven't even thought about going any faster.

My CSC on an '05 GL works just fine -- drove it down an expressway at 75 on Thursday with a trailer attached -- no problems.

btw, also had to make a "panic" stop on a surface road and the trailer neever left its proper tracking. not sure thats the goldwing, CSC, trailer , trailer hitch or whatever, but it sure was the best i could expect.

We regularly ride our 08 GW1800 CSC on highways at 75 and above and back roads at 65 and above, and as a passenger I've never noticed any difference. I'll check with ScalpHunter and ask him to post as well.

Drove mine across canada on my way to alaska 24 days, 75+, fully loaded with everything plus a few beers and it purrrred like a kitten...hit the mountains and it ripped like are,,,,,(fill in example), at 55 its just starting to get into the power range in 5th, it loves running 2500+ rpm's:pepper:,,, i love that damn pepper,,,,:Monster:

50 miles per hour is only about 2000 RPM with a CSC.
Mine does 80 plus with no strain, although the mileage drops off above
3500 RPM. That is about 75 MPH.

Well, it is a done deal now. My CSC kit is being painted y181 this week and installed next week with ABS, 5.5 degree rake. In about 3 weeks i will be enjoying it.

what i meant by strain was it felt like there should be another gear....like running 55 in fourth instead of fifth (the 5th gear indicator was on btw)

I very rarely ride over 65MPH (even in a cage ) but the DFT trike with 1997 wing feels good at any speed even 2 up pulling a 500+lb trailer

I never even use 5th Gear on a 1800 Gold Wing unless I'm running above 65 MPH sustained. Lotsa' Riders lug Them to death (too high of gear for the speed)....3rd and 4th will run You most all day on relatively straight 2-Lane Highways, and 2nd and 3rd on twisty roads. The Lower Gears also generally give You better MPG also.....Let it rev-n-breath some.....ThumbUp

You may be educating me here! I have always gone to 5th as soon as I could, even running on a long 35mph road, thinking I was saving gas. Am I wrong in that assumption? :Computer:

You could be if you have to hold the throttle open to much to keep the engine going, thus using more gas than necessary to keep the engin running. You are operating the engine below it's efficient range. Down shift brings the RPM's up into the more efficient range of the motor.
