Reverse on Goldwing CSC

finally got the newly converted wing out. Leading question now concerns reverse. I would say about 1/3 of the time I switch to reverse it doesn't engage. I hear something spinning but it's like gears didnt engage. Usually then if I go to N, 1st gear, move a little, then back to reverse it engages. I'm guessing this shouldn't happen. I will be calling the dealer when off in a couple days. Just thought I'd ask here first.

i sometimes also do not engage properly. mine makes kind of a chatter noise, like gears just not synced right. solution is same as yours. Happens maybe 1 out of 20 times.
Mine was converted in 07, by previous owner.

Reverse on our 2004 GL1800 works every time as long as I wait for it to kick in after I push the reverse button before I push the start button to make it move in reverse. In fact, it seems there is about second lag time from the time I push most of the buttons to the time the selected action takes place.

Several folks have had various level of success by removing the right engine side cover (the one you remove to check/add oil) and spraying the spring and cable ends located at the rear of the opening heavily with silicone spray while working the reverse button several times. When you activate the reverse circuit you'll see things moving around back there....

You'll also see two control cables coming from that general area. They are going to the reverse solenoid. On rare occasions these cables do need adjusting. There is a procedure in the shop manuals for that but if you aren't comfortable doing it I'm sure your dealer will be happy to help you our for a small donation.

Thanks to all of you! The dealer is about 3 hrs south of me, but plan to call tomorrow. I didn't have this problem before the conversion. Bike is '08 and conversion just done. I'm goin to have another question soon here

The only problem i ever have with mine is sometimes the trike will be in neutral but the neutral light will flicker. I just drop it back in 1st and back to neutral and get a good bright neutral light and it goes in reverse every time. I wouldn`t think the trike conversion would have anything to do with the reverse but i might be wrong.
