Removing HD parade fan/install Love Jugs

I must be one of the lucky ones (or only one) - I don't have a heat issue - never had - all stock bikes. :pepper: ThumbUp

Just once, back in '03 at the Canadian border coming back - bumper to bumper - moving a foot every 5 minutes. My Ultra hit 300* and I couldn't get it to stop moving with the clutch all the way in. Had to pull off to the side and let it cool down for a few minutes. Changed all fluids immediately as soon as I got home and I only had 1000 miles on the oil. :AGGHH:

I believe one of the reasons I don't have a heat problem is because I have a higher tolerance for heat then most riders. Which is a good thing for me since it saves me a lot of money by not having to buy all these fixes like mufflers, cat less headers, A/C, etc.
I do admit that I did buy a set of floorboard extenders, but mainly for comfort. ThumbUp

Thanks for sharing. So it's not your Harley that's running cool (an improbable occurrence) it's that you just tough it out. Although that is admirable, think of your unfortunate engine that has no such advantage. Every time you are in a slow riding situation that poor baby is heating up and the oil is not flowing when it needs it the most. If you don't need LOVE JUGS for your own comfort, you'd give your V-twin engine a break by keeping it cool and protected from heat related problems.
 
I've been following this for a while now. Living here in Northeast Louisiana, we have some pretty high temps in the summer, along with high humidity. I ride a 97 FLHTCUI, with a Motor-Trike kit. Not the fastest on the road, but I'm more about the adventure than the ride now. I noticed my cylinder temps we're getting a little high when in traffic. Yes, I am one of those strange individuals who will shoot his cylinders with temp gun while sitting in traffic. I noticed temps just over 300 degrees several times.

Investigated all the fans out there, and decided on Love-Jugs, the Heat-Master, I think. They are wired into the key-switch, that way I can turn them on and off when needed. As soon as installed, the rear cylinder temp dropped nearly a 100 degrees. On extremely hot day 85 degrees and above, neither clyinder has ever gotten over 250 degress. Below 80 degrees I leave them off, and yes, I do ride in several parades a year as a Shriner. This eliminated my heat-problem.

I am sure there are other fans out there that will work just as well, Love-Jugs, served my purpose.

Tough it out? not really, heat just doesn't bother me so much....neither does the cold and I ride every week during the winter in Chicago. My engines never run overly hot except maybe in stop and go traffic which I do not ride in anymore. I'd say my engine temps are probably around 240 - 260.
 
Zook, I have been following this thread regarding these fans and, even though I have the Ward's fans on my ride, I can tell you that a good friend of mine who is a 20 year HD Technician stated that most of the folks riding the V-Twin motors are trying to keep their temps too cool. He advised me that the normal operating head temp for the V-Twin should be at 260 degree F (although can go higher, but this is normal), and the oil temp at operating temp should be around 230 degrees.

Although I was quite surprised at these numbers, it has eased my constant concerns about my engine/oil temps and given my one less thing to worry about, if that makes sense!!
