Took the trike to the dealer Thursday, having trouble with the switch to the speakers. Switch from headset to outside speakers, nothing. Tech brought the trike out said it was fixed. Tech was still on trike, ask him to switch it,nothing. Took it back in for a while and Service Manager came out and said I needed a new radio. This will be the third radio with two on extended warranty, sure glad I bought it. Trike has 39,168 miles on it.
Anybody else have radio problems?

I have not had radio problems, but have read of a few which makes another good reason to get the extended wreanty before January.

I had the exact same thing happen & thought it was the switch on the lower fairing.
This June I was going across country & stopped at Indy West HD in Plainfield In.
They were really very good in finding what it was & had a radio in stock to replace my radio & also in performing another major repair under warranty
I would highly recommend them to anyone, both locally or to a traveler!!!

They've had issues with that radio since its introduction in 2006, would have figured they would have gotten it right by now.

Same thing happened with mine...I thought it was the switch, took it in and they knew right off it was the radio.

They replace them quite frequently. Like m3 said, you would think they would have it figured out by now.

I'm at 43k and the second one is still going strong...at least it was last time I turned it on. lol

From the rumor mill and some actual experience...

Cold solder joints and weak power triads are the main culprits. Had two covered under warranty. With the HK radio it isn't a matter of IF, it is a matter of WHEN it will go bad.

There is a company called Iron Cross Radio that specializes in the HK repair. For about 250 bucks they will fix all these issues and the HK will last a long time. They also do specialty work such as adding an AUX adapter to the rear of the radio or even change the screen light colors to match the bike.

When you take your radio back to HD they will give you a rebuilt radio, no exceptions. It too will stop working soon.

I had mine fixed by Iron Cross over a year ago and no problems so far. Plus they had a much quicker delivery than HD.

I turned mine on today. Still working, even after the pounding it's been taking in Canada and Alaska.

But my service department said the same as Mr. Wizard, when it goes out again, just bring it back in, cause it will.
