Question for those who use Apple car play with wired headsets on their Tri-Glide

Was fiddling in the garage while it was raining and for SG&G’s I fired up car play using my iPhone and a cord to the USB port. Worked just fine. Shut down the bike, then plugged in my brides headset in the passenger plug, turned the bike back on and no car play. Shut it down, unplugged the passenger headset, turned the bike back on and mine worked. Checked all settings (per the boom box quick start manual all good. Tried the routine again, same thing. Took the bike (device) out of car play on my phone, shut down the phone, powered it back up and reconnected the bike to the phone; same thing. I’ve tried three different Apple cords, switching rider and passenger helmet plug ins, and tried a brand new Harley headset in both plugs. Still didn't work. Then shut down bluetooth on my phone thinking it may conflict with car play; tired the routine again with same result. Then tried just using just the passenger plug headset; car play worked.



I know it’s not a “guy thing” to do, but I downloaded the entire boom box manual, read thru it and no where can I find where it mentions car play will not work with two wired headsets.





So after that long winded explanation, can anyone who uses Apple car play with two wired headsets please tell me if car play works when BOTH wired headsets are plugged in?

Unsure from you post if you had only the wife's headset plugged into the passenger plug. Reason I ask is that Car Play requires a mic in order to activate. Don't know if it's looking for a mic in the rider spot only but suspect that might be the case.

Plug in both your headset and the wife's and try it.

In any case I would suggest you have dealer flash to eliminate the mic in Car Play. Before I had that done I had difficulty even getting Car Play to activate and if it did to stay active. Now with the mic disabled for Car Play it works fine with both rider and passenger headsets plugged in. The mic disable only affects Car Play. It still works fine for intercom, CB, phone, etc.

Carplay will not work with ONLY the passenger headset plugged in...

It only looks at a mic plugged into the front intercom DIN plug...and (of course) an iPhone plugged into the media port.

Found this out when I was investigating if I wanted to do the Carplay bypass plug, as we use Sena (non-HD) headsets.

Went ahead and installed the bypass plug and all works fine now...the plug essentially fools the system into thinking the front headset os plugged in.

Probably would have been cheaper than having mine flashed as my dealer charged me a half hour labor I think it was. But had not see or heard of the bypass plug then. Guess either solution will work.

Brian, to answer your question, yes, Carplay works on my 2019 Triglide with both helmets plugged in.
