Question about riding in the rain

Hi all,

I spent Saturday afternoon over in Daytona for Biketoberfest. Mostly, the weather was good but there were a couple of heavy patches of rain to deal with. My question is what do you guys use to keep the rain sheeting off of helmet visors? I look over my windshield so that was not a problem. I heard that RainEx is not safe for plastic. So what products do you use? Are you happy with the results?

Thanks in advance.

I just "1 finger wipe" off whatever goggles I have on. Fog is a bigger issue for me with glasses under goggles. I also always carry an extra pair of goggles.
I also take it way more cautious in rain.
I hear there is a Marine (plastic) version of Rain-X, but I never seem to find it any where. Need to look for it on line one of these days.

I usually just raise up enough for the wind coming over the windshield to blow it off the visor.

I used to use lemon pledge and it worked good. only problem with that is. if you get stuck at a red light and theres a bee hive nearby, guess where they are coming.. I had to run a red light one time because they were starting to swarm around the bike. don't know for sure if it was the lemon pledge I put on the windshield and visor or not but just assuming it was.

hasn't happened since I stopped using it.

I look over my windshield now so the air keeps the shield clear. However, Rain-X does make a product now for plastic and it works well. I typically just use the Honda spray cleaner/polish and it does a good job also.

I also have my co-rider with me most of the time and when we are in rain she keeps a small rag handy for when we slow down and there isn't enough air to blow the shield off. She reaches around me and gives my face shield a quick wipe and I'm good for awhile.

There is also a product that is like a wiper blade that fits around your thumb and you use it to "swipe" the water off. I have one but don't use it that often.

I look though my windshield
Rain is OK but the fog (like this morning) is bad
I made my windshield for it will fold down. (see link below)
My windshield has changed since this photo but it still folds like this

Got the idea from a Jeep windshield

I have tried lemon pledge, Rainex,, windex, some stuff I got at a bike show, cutting vents in the glass, Spit, Shaving cream and some other things I don't remember, Nothing worked

What did seem to help some is the angle of the windshield. At first I had it more straight up and down, once I put it at more of a angle it helped some

Thanks for the ideas everyone. I try not to ride in the rain, but sometimes it just happens. The rain drops would not blow off my visor. I didn't know RainEx made a safe product for plastics. I will try this on my next trip.

In our area, O'Reily Auto stocks the RainX for plastic for under 7 bucks, might give them a try.

First of all I ride looking through the windshield. I also wear a full face helmet and if it is raining hard I can raise the shield just enough to see under and it helps. I have used the finger visors but most of the time I couldn't fine them when I needed them.

rain riding

stick your head out to the side of the screen the wind will blow your glasses or shield clean

Rain on the windscreen

While in Maggie, I met two folks who had came in from Il [Father and Son]. We were sitting on the great rockers and shooting the breeze about windscreens. He came out with a bottle of Bug Slide and cleaned my windscreen almost like new! He said it was great in the rain. When we got home I took the hose and rinsed it off and it looked like it beaded off real well. But the next time I am in the rain I will give a better report! Thanks, Charlie
