Put the 3 items below on my trike to hold my phone where I can see it while riding...

So far, the combo really seems to hold the phone in place and is really sturdy. In my mind, I believe the X grip could hold it all by itself without using the stretchy rubber thing to secure it to the X grip. But my heart says don't take that chance. Takes about an extra minute both securing it and taking it off. Two minutes total to make sure my expsensive iphone 6+ doesn't fall off the bike at speed is worth the bother.

Oh yeah, I guess I could've shown pics of the finished product...I'll take some in the morning and post them.

that setup should work fine. I bought something totally different last summer. I'll try to post a pick. I works fine for my cell phone or Ipod.

I think today I will try to set up some mounts for the GoPro I bought last month. Hopefully it will be a quick setup and I can take a ride around Saturday which will be warmer and drier.

I wish that was big enough for my iPhone 6+. Just a smidgen too small.

Does your iPhone 6+ have a case on it? the RAM website says the holder I have should be able to take the 6+. From the RAM site:

CRADLE CLAMPING DIMENSIONS:

Height Range: 4 3/4" - 6.25"
Width Range: 2.25" - 3.25"

The Apple site says the iPhone 6+ is 6.22 inches long, 3.08 inches wide and .28 inch thick. Your iPhone would fit if it isn't wearing protection.

It wears a life proof case.

I just got the X-grip also, have not tried it on the trike yet. I would NOT use it without the rubber "tender" attached, though! I might even put an extra rubber band around the middle. I only need to see if I get a work call, when it will light up. Then I will know if I need to pull over and call in.

I'm finally able to upload some pics after choking my phone a few times. I'll upload what I can to give everyone an idea of what it looks like.

The X holder with the RAM supplied oversized rubber band. Apparently they decided to offer this as standard issue after a rash of bad reviews and complaints.

Here's the attachment to the clutch reservoir. They supply several different bolts with different thread sizes to try to accommodate different bikes.

This pic show the back side where the oversized rubber band resides. Also shows the swivel attachment between the handlebar mount and the X grip. I HIGHLY suggest getting at the very least a double socket that SWIVELS. At first I just had the standard double socket. You are at its mercy as to how you mount the x grip.

Sorry about the pics. They were uploaded from an iphone, and I had to take a screen shot of the original pics which were taken in portrait so they were in landscape, hence the big blank black areas on each side. I'll remember from now on to take all pics in landscape so that won't be a problem. :D

As it is (with the big rubber band), I would rate this as a very good solution for mounting your phone to the handlebars. You can take off the x grip very easily if not using it if you want. And with the tether (rubber band), it is an extremely sturdy grip. For real though, it's strong without the tether, but I can't bring myself to chance it. If I were designing it, I would made it with a double x (two 'stoppers' each on the sides, like now, and two 'stoppers' top and bottom in addition). If it were like that a tether wouldn't be needed.

Using the tether is only bothersome if you're in a hurry, and it cost you about an extra minute both putting your phone on, and taking it off. To me the tether is worth the minute for the peace of mind it gives you.

I already had a Ram ball handle bar mount and a short Ram arm (for gps on my former bikes), so I just needed the X mount (it came with the tether). So, I have the double ball swivel with my set up and agree that a double swivel is needed to get the position that works best for the rider.
