problem with high beams

I have a 1997 GL1500a. I've always had a problem while switching between high and low beams, it usually hesitates and within 10 to 15 seconds it will switch. Today the high beams will not come on at all. The indicator light on the dash comes on but the headlight only comes on when it is set on low beam. Is there a relay that switches between the two or does the switch change it by itself?

I am almost positive there is a relay. That tiny switch can't take all that power. I am not close to my Honda repair manual I will check in the AM .

Spray some real electrical cleaner (not WD40) in the switch. You never know, it could just be a dirty switch.

Make sure it has not blown a blub. Already been said, but spray all the switches with contact cleaner.( Flood them) RIDE SAFE
