Tricky here

I'm hearing a noise in the front end when I cross [railroad tracks for instance] an uneven bump at a slower speed. The rear end seems to cause the handle bars to move side to side. The action can be quite violent and is worse at a lower speed and is shaking the front end loose. At this point the extension for the fork tubes has come loose one one side and is moved tighter on the other side. The dealer marks put on the tubes[blue paint mark] tell the story. I'd like to know if anyone else is experiencing this problem. I'm riding a 2007 street glide FLHX that I bought new and and have a Daytona kit that was installed two years ago. The trike has approximately 35K kilometres on it.

Just a shot in the dark .....But have you checked the steering head bearings for wear or lossless.. ??

I am working on that now and using CDC torque values. I wonder if I soften up the rear suspension would that get worse or better?

guess ill try one thing at a time.

Thanks for the response

I went back to my dealer and the front end was dismantled and check over. We found one of the fork extensions to be loose. Tightened everything back up and rode out. Trike handles better than before so Im guessing the neck was a bit loose. Now oil is leaking from the bottom of the extension on the side that was loose. I think now either the threads on the extension are pooched or the threads on that fork are. Going back to the dealer[hopefully] before riding season is over. if I watch them do their magic once more I will be able to take the front end apart myself.

When they tighten the fork extension, they probably cut the 'O' Ring that seals the top of the fork. The 'O' Ring probably slipped and it was never checked to positioning and they just tighten it up.

Turned out to be wrong size Ring. Fixed up now, back on the road until the snow flys!

Which dealer did the work on this - the Harley dealership or the CSC dealer that did the install?

Was this covered under the CSC warranty since it was a part of the kit install?

my CSC dealer did the repair on warranty. I don't take my trike to the local HD dealer as they are to busy servicing new motorcycle's and don't have time for my 2007 street glide with a trike kit that is not theirs. There is enough good mechanics around that whatever I can't repair myself I can find someone to help. This repair was done on my trike after I had about 40K miles on it not on the original install. I have had no trouble with my trike warranty and luckily I have a 5 year warranty rider. Love the trike and the Harley!!!

Originally I had a slight drip from one fork extension. The CSC dealer took the front end apart and we checked everything over, tightened up the steering head and put it all back together. The wrong size Oring was reinstalled at this time causing both extensions to drip. The CSC dealer took the trike back in immediately and discovered the wrong rings and fixed me up.

Im not sure where the thumbs down icon at the top of the post comes from but it wasn't from me.

Thanks so much for your response. I have mentioned several times that I am getting a CSC conversion in March.

Your comments simply help me believe that I got the best package for "my needs". Yes, CSC does have a 5-year warranty and I am so glad to know that they stepped right up.
