Passenger back shield

I know of an old lady that drove so slow , she put a bug shield on her trunk lid to keep the bugs from hitting the back window. Because they were passing her.

I saw a goldwing trike today with a tinted shield on the back of the passenger seat. Looked to a foot tall. Anyone know anything about this shield?

I have seen these. They are intended to reduce the buffeting around the passenger.
Seems to me that if you are going to ride a motorcycle, the wind is part of the ride.
Many folks like the environment having no wind. It helps with the headphones, passenger reading... I have even heard of the passenger falling asleep.

Don't know how well they work, never ridden with one.

Bought one when they first came out. Made by Kury and are called a rear air deflector.
Wife is 5'8" and this deflector did absolutely nothing for her, nor for me riding solo.
From many posts on another forum, it seems to have some benefit if your passenger is short!
Also, when installed my cover would no longer fit!
Gave it a fair test, then removed it and eventually tossed it in the trash.
IMHO, $129+shipping wasted!!!

I ordered one when they came out a few years ago.
First I didn't like the black color on my white trike.
Put it on and took a ride. It flapped back and forth, couldn't tell anything different regarding the wind.
Had my wife get on to see how she liked it. Got a big no from her.
Tried to put my 1/2 cover on, wouldn't fit. Same with the full cover.
Took it off and sent it back for a refund.
If you go to a rally, check to see how many have them.
I have yet to see one on a wing other then in a picture.

I have a friend who's wife routinely sleeps on the bike during long trips. Never would have believed it 'til I saw it for myself...

My wife used to sleep for hours on end on the back of my two wheeled Aspencade. Now, since the trike, not so much. Yea, I know, makes no sense to me either but I have NOT been married for nearly 45 years to learn how to ask her to explain herself to me. No sir buddy, no thanks. :clapping: :)

We have one on our trike and had one on our last trike. When we bought the new trike the first thing I added was this this shield. It helps a lot with my wife's helmet buffeting, when the wife is happy everyone is happy! Charley

Coming back from Americade on an old Harley years ago. Late night drinking. Wife may have had one too many jagers.
Friends behind me told me her foot was hanging down sliding along road around corners. She seems too have fallen asleep. Needless to say, she won't admit anything but finished the trip in someone's van.

You generally see these more often on 'Wings with the really, really tall front windshields...for all the "still air" they produce at the front of the Bike/Tike, they create a really bad back draft buffeting......ThumbUp

I guess I really don't get the concept?

How does it help being behind her? Is this a side wind issue or what?

Still don't make sense to me?

Kury created the rear air foil to go with their tall windshield. The claim is this device elimates "back draft".

As I stated earlier, it made no difference at all to my 5'8" wife(passenger) or 6'2" me as a solo rider.

I get the back draft off the fenders when riding solo!

Also, as stated, many, many threads/posts on this product shortly after it's intro, seemed to indicate it might have some benefit for shorter passengers.

Ive got one on mine. The missus is about 5 ft tall so when she sits she gets a lot of buffeting off of the trunk. The rear shield blocks it all and makes her ride pleasant. We're not getting any younger and I bought a wing to enjoy riding with the missus. Getting beat up by the wind while riding while youre young may be part of the experience ,but Im older and hopefully wiser and Im in it to enjoy the ride.

Yep, they provide that extra bit of comfort for a lot of Folks....why they are made for most Convertible Sports Cars also.....Our Miata has a lot of rear turbulence with the top down.....ThumbUp
