I like my aircraft with wings on them thank you! I can't imagine that having a favorable glide pattern if a rotor fails. I know we have helicopters but when you turn something like that loose on the masses there will be failures. Sort of a glorified version of the gyrocopter we used to see in popular mechanics. A lot of flying cars none sucsessful yet.

Sidecarbill, At the altitude they showed in the video "autorotation" might not be possible. But if your engine dies at higher elevations helicopters actually can be glided to a landing very successfully anywhere there's a landing zone, just like an airplane.

Successfully, Maybe, Like an airplane no. At least not with a Huey. They hit the ground hard and with little Maneuverability.. :cxtv: Don't know about other types of choppers , The last one i was in was 67 ..

I have experience with low altitude flight. I jumped off the barn roof with cardboard wings on dare with my sister when I was about ten. I survived wasn't pretty but nothin broke. So now she has to jump with the umbrella for a parachute, damit she she survived too. If our parents knew some some of the dumb**** we did as kids they would of had a heart attack.
