Over heat

I have a by-pass switch on my right handle bar so I can turn my fans on and off at will. You will need to be careful and not forget to turn it off though.
It was a simple and cheap mod and got me across the country when my fans wouldn't kick on as they were supposed to.
It's just a matter of grounding the right wire and the fans will come on.

I had mine apart today and the "right" wire comes from the fan relay which is in the relay bank under the seat and marked on top as the first one on the right side center of the relay bank. You need to pull the relay bank off using the two screws either side of the relay bank. Look behind the bank of relays and identify the fan relay.
There will be an orange and silver wire coming from the relay. Test it by turning the key on and using a test light, YOU MUST USE A TEST LIGHT OTHERWISE YOU MIGHT SHORT THE WRONG THING AND HAVE A PROBLEM. Once you have used a test light and the fans came on when you have taken that wire to ground. Now use a wire tap on that wire running the wire you are using to start the fans with and put a switch inline to a separate ground.
This will work as I use it regularly with no problems. If you need a diagram I can make one and I have a couple of pics that I can post as well.

IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE ABILITY TO DO SIMPLE WIRING.....DON'T ATTEMPT THIS OR ANY MOD THAT REQUIRES AT LEAST AN UNDERSTANDING OF ELECTRONICS.

Thank you I have some ability so it would be a great help if you would post the diagram and pictures. Once you put the inline switch I assume the fans will still work normally but this gives you the option of turning them on when you need them too. Thanks SMSgt and thank you for your service to our great nation.

Thank you and you're welcome.
If you wanted to get me on the phone I could talk you through it. I had to do an emergency bypass of the relay a couple of years ago, I was in LA getting ready for a run to DC and found out that my fans wouldn't come on. I "fixed" them in the parking lot of a Pep Boys. I was just glad to have it parked in the shade.
If you want my phone number PM me and I'll give it to you.
I'll be in MI next week but I'll be in the Yupper. And I know you don't want to ride it up there.:xzqxz:

Here is the best I could come up with on short notice. Just click on it and it will be big enough to read.

We're going to the Yupper to take care of our grand kids while mom and dad go on a vacation to Hawaii. Our daughter says it is -30 there and they're leaving town. We'll be there for a week or so then I'll come back here and do some motorcycle riding going on here.
